I've been seeing a lot of "all we have is our DPS" from mages, which is kind of puzzling. If mages can't do viable DPS, that would be a problem, full stop. If mages have substantially less unique utility than other classes, that would be a completely separate problem. It would be a terrible design for mages to intentionally do top DPS, or have an extremely low skill cap, in exchange for having less unique utility.

I don't buy "all we have is our DPS" at all. Time Warp? Arcane Brilliance? Ring of Frost?

If the crafter BS PvP gear follows the same pattern as the LW and tailoring, then it doesn't matter, it's just the 458 Honor gear from 5.0.

As the leader of a 10m who has spent two and a half nights on Horridan already, yes, that fight seems over-tuned for 10m. The adds seemingly spawn the same amount at the same rate, which makes the debuffs extremely hard to deal with, even if you have possible dispellers. Our group has no disease dispel and consequently, we get wrecked by the Drakkari door. This seems like a huge oversight by Blizzard, considering the whole idea of giving all healers a magic dispel was to prevent this 'not having a crucial dispel' thing.

I really don't buy the "demon hunter as a warlock spec" malarkey.

Even without going into the gearing mess that tacking a melee class onto warlocks would bring, the very fact that Night elves wouldn't be able to be a demon hunter would mean half the people who want a demon hunter, can't play the demon hunter they want (unless they make night elves able to roll warlocks, but that's arguably worse).

Look at the demon hunter's abilities: http://classic.battle.net/war3/night...onhunter.shtml

2 of 4 are already part of the Warlock's spell kit. One was a Priest spell before it was cut, the other is now a Rogue ability. Either Rogue or Warlock could work.

Also, Warlocks already have the Glyph of Demon Hunting which turns us into a melee spellcaster/tank.

Lust, Frost nova, polymorph, counterspell, Remove curse, spellsteal; Go Lore, our champion against whiney mages! Bet they'd whine even more of they where asked to go on de-curse duty.

Hunters, Just get a Sporebat, most LFRs will be missing that buff.

It matters to me because whilst my tailor was making money from selling the new patterns from day 1, my BS can't.

I don't even know if my BS will ever be able to acquire the designs. I don't have time to run through the new quest zone on alts so unless it can just walk in there and start picking up the designs once the other part of the island is unlocked then I will be screwed.

The other group of players for whom it matters are those levelling plate alts who want to acquire the ilevel needed to get into RF as soon as possible. These items cost 40g to produce so they are a low cost way of instantly meeting the ilevel requirements.

To me the most "verstatile" thing about mages (or at least arcane) is the versatility of their dps. Some classes (rogues being the one with which I am most familiar) lose huge chunks of damage when forced to switch targets to perform a fight mechanic. Arcane mages lose virtually none, and that "versatility" in my opinion is worth far more than any of the other things people mention as being 'utility' for a class. Ranged in general are just so much more versatile in that they can be the 'you must have x ranged for this mechanic' dps in addition to almost always having better target-switching capability since nearly every melee class loses tremendously on target switches.

Um, no, melee do not lose a tremendous amount of DPS target swapping.

19.44, best series of phraises ever. When Lore's guild wipes, he just tells every single player individually 'do better'. lol

When someone complains about mage dps being to low, I get the impression they have not mastered the art of picking a specialisation, or talents.

We have a Mage in our guild that always seems to look at top parse or sim numbers and goes "damn, I need to gear up spec X now", rather than just sticking to 2 specs and staying on that. The only exception to that rule is ... euhm ... me, because while Enhancement is great, Elemental on Horridon = LOLWHATADDSCLSPAMBRO!!!

Knowledge of your class/spec >>>>>> whatever 1% the theoretical max DPS cap is.
Oh, and in our 10man, Mages bring healing, because they bring crit = Our Hunter can use Spirit Beasts (or another buff pet we need)

It's the lack of 25 man utility that makes mages say "all we have is our DPS". No raid cds, no battle res, no healthstone or healing mechanic. Time warp would be an argument, except it shares the same CD as lust, and name a 25 man without a hunter or shaman. AB is covered by other classes. Ring of frost was amazing in H Nef, and that's about it.

It's the pure dps classes bringing nothing to the raid but dps. Locks are fine with their healthstones, battle res, and portal. Rogues were made useful with smoke bomb turning into a raid CD. Hunters and Mages currently have nothing, and if their dps is not near top then they will be replaced with a class that can do their job better and has more raid utility(all you need is 1 shaman in raid to cover lust).
