Help me to chose a new PC!

    Hi folks,

I built my PC at the end of WotLK. It was awesome then, I could run WoW on ultra everywhere and had great frame rates without the fan on my GPU screaming. Now, my PC is old and tired (just like me) and the noise from the fans is bad even on medium settings. This simply won't do! As my peripherals are still in good condition, I don't really see a need to replace them.

I am looking for recommendations for a new CPU, cooler, motherboard, GPU and SSD. I'll post up whatever details are necessary here just in case things wont be compatible with the rest of my system.

    Cheers,

    Sharku.

€1500 or so. Maybe thats excessive for what I "need" but if I need more than just the new components I listed, then I could spend that and more. My machine has a 1kw PSU in it at the moment so I'm guessing I won't need to replace it? €2k max for everything, should I need to start from scratch.

Now, you only want to have a processor, mobo, gpu, and SSD. You probably also want some RAM.

Of course, you don't need the massive heatsink (although it is huge and awesome), you could drop down to the 128GB version of the SSD to save 120 euros. If you prefer AMD graphics cards, you can take something like

Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950 3GB Video Card ($299.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 3GB Video Card ($399.99 @ Amazon)

Lol Fetzie I never even thought of RAM! I have 16GB at the moment. I would fill all my RAM slots if you thought it would be worth it? I don't particularly care how well my machine will run anything except WoW, I just want to be able to run everywhere, on ultra, in relative silence.

What hardware do you currently have?

    Do you use multiple monitors?

Do you only want to play WoW?

What is the resolution of your monitor?

I only have (and have room for) one 1920x1080 monitor, its a 60hz LG 23" monitor. Basically I will only play WoW. I have an Asus Xonar DX soundcard which hasn't failed me yet hooked up to some fairly basic active stereo speakers.

The mobo is an Asus P7H57D-V EVO. I've seen on sites like MMO-Champ people can link their entire spec but I forget now where it was. I could do that if it would be of any help?

    Well, yeah...

The mobo is an Asus P7H57D-V EVO
That is an LGA 1156 board, the RAM is probably 1.65V so not really compatible with 1155 processors and motherboards.

    Give me the

    CPU
    MoBo
    RAM
    GPU
    PSU
    HDD
    Case

I dunno, I mean your CPU is decent. Your graphics card will always have run hot, the 480 was like a 1 bar heater. Simply replacing the graphics card should greatly reduce the temperature and noise.

I would consider only replacing the graphics card if it would be worth it in terms of getting say 60FPS everywhere for the duration of this expansion on ultra settings. The other reason for wanting to get a new system is the excessive amounts of BSOD I seem to get for whatever reason. If there was a reliable and easy way to actually detect what the problems are that cause the blue screens, then I might just hold on to the rest and get a new GPU. A completely new system however, is not out of my reach at all, Santa is coming soon after all!

You can spend 6000 on a computer and it won't run WoW at 60 FPS in raids all the time

HOWEVER, getting a new CPU and GPU would run WoW at 60FPS most of the time.

But only getting a new CPU and GPU wouldn't solve my blues screen problems...

You know the saying about a fool and his money, right?

9 times out of ten, blue screens are caused by driver issues.

And "get a new CPU" also means a new motherboard and new RAM.

What are the STOP codes when you BSOD?

Normally one writes it down when a BSOD occurs a second time

They are stored somewhere in the system manager, but I can't remember how you extract the data from them.

When they happen, the system restarts as soon as the crash dump is finished so I never get a chance to really take in what the BSOD is telling me, except the IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or MEMORY_MANAGEMENT

Is your Windows in English or German?

Control Panel --> System --> Advanced System Settings --> Start and Restore (click on Settings) --> System Error (remove the tick next to "Automatically restart system")

Systemsteuerung --> System --> Erweiterte Systemeigenschaften --> Starten und Wiederherstellen (click on "Eigenschaften") --> Systemfehler (remove the tick next to "Systemneustart automatisch durchführen")
