My damage taken compared to my co-tank seems too high.

I've just started in a new guild that is progressing through hardmodes. I thought I was up to hardmode raiding again after doing it through Wotlk comfortably. However after 3 weeks of raiding with these guys every two tank fight I am always top of the damage taken by a high margin compared to my Druid co-tank.

Here is a link to a Blackhorn fight where I guess the mechanics balance out the uptime of the two tanks. In this fight I should say that my bear had a more time tanking Blackhorn since never actually reaching high Sunder Stacks.

    I
'm CTC capped with food + elixirs, and use an armour elixir for the two logs. I don't use Shield Block off CD, and prefer to use it when I drop a bit, or just off the back of a big hit (Morchok's early Stomps for example).

I would appreciate if someone could look over the logs and see if I am doing something wrong, or if my gearing/gemming strategy is wrong, any Glyphs that could be a problem or even talents?

    Thanks in Advance.

Shieldblock uptime should be near 33% on morchok you have 11% uptime and blackhorn 6% which is pretty terrible should at least be 25%+. You can delay shieldblock a few seconds for something but any longer is suboptimal. Demoshout uptime isn't as high as it should be 80% on korchom and missing a fair bit of time on blackhorn as well. I'd start using shieldblock on cd and get an addon to track demoshout/tc that should improve damage taken

Spec and gear look decent although i would get improved revenge instead of thunderstruck, might as well use the 2set bonus. Vp trinket, hc morchok shoulders and tier legs would be nice upgrades.

At a glance I don't see anything really wrong.

You should be using Shield Block on CD, sure its great to stabilise you after a big hit, but really you should be preventing the big hits by having shield bock up, and using last stand if you feel you're about to die. your over CD's should be used pre-emptively, not reactively. There are als some quite big gaps in demoshout or equivalent uptimes.

You actually take less damage than your bear co-tank on morchok, I would assume your great damage taken on gunship comes from mainly the stacks of brutal strike and degeneration. You have significantly higher uptimes of those mechanics. Is it a case that they burn down the bear's add first on those fights?

Well, just so you know, Soulshifter Vortex is at the bottom of the list of desirable trinkets for shield tanks. I would recommend dropping it for the Valor mastery trinket, and then just popping a steelskin instead of elixirs, and replacing a few gems with pure stamina. Sheild Block should probably jsut be maccro'd into your rotation, there's only really one or two fights where you need to make sure you have it up for something specific.

Don't Macro shield Block into your rotation. You don't really want to be in a situation where you pop it 10 seconds before you taunt back on a taunt swap fight. or just as you go into the blackblood phase on morchock, or while zon'ozz is off summonimg his adds.

    Thanks for the responses.

My uptime on Demo Shout is something I need to work on. I do track Demo Shout through Auracle & Power Auras, but the misses on reapplication are really high for me, which throws me off rotation a lot. For Blackhorn I can really only say it's low due to fight mechanics.

I think using Shield Block more frequently is something I do need to resolve. I think I'm very fearful of having it on cooldown for example, as you said Blackblood on Morchok, or Stomps on Morchok.

In regards to Imp Revenge, I dropped it due to me being under the impression that dps wise it wasn't really a useful talent. I run with a 10man, and I regard my dps, for what it is, fairly important. Would you say the minor loss to dps would be significant enough in Survival Gains due the 2pc?

The feedback is really appreciated, and has given me something to really work on for next weeks reset!

    Thanks a bunch!

The difference in demo uptime would effect both tanks. Dont forget bears have demo roar.

Mainly its just your gear. You really want to reach full ctc.

Reev: So, do I macro /dance into Shield Slam now? Raysere: Yes, I hear it increases your DPS Gold balance gear quality attractiveness to the opposite gender considerably

What kind of masochistic Heroic Morchok strategy are you using?

@the OP: you're allowed to have SB on cooldown whilst Black blood is up. the idea is you try not to pop it when most of it will be wasted as you aren't tanking something, get a power aura that show when SB is off CD and pay attention to your boss timers.

Thunderstruck gives less then 1% extra dps or about 100-150 dps. Looking at your log there are other ways to improve your dps as tank, recklessness, retaliation, strength potions, higher shieldblock uptime for more heavy repercussion shieldslams. I'd say its worth it for the 250-500 hps from the 2set.
