Fantastic post and really helpful. On Rag fight my dps seems to drop lots when its time to be on stun duty on the flame adds. I don't know if its really to do with the time it takes me to travel to the other side, but for what ever reason my dps drops way below that of warriors and rogues where as on other fights i can beat them.

However my real question is, what trinkets do you recommend. I notice you use Essence of the Eternal Flame. I use Dwyer's Caber for the constant strength and nice crit proc. If you could give me your reasons and advice, I would be grateful.

Not too familiar with the ICD of that trinket but crit really isn't that useful for us compared to other stats. If you can get hold of heroic Heart of Rage from Chimaeron, the strength proc on that is really insane, even at heroic t12 level. As for me I don't think I'll be replacing my Essence until I can get hold of the ragnaros heroic one. Having to stagger my cooldowns to optimise usage of AoK is a pretty big setback in terms of DPS. The one minute CD on essence lines up nicely with cooldowns.

Was wondering why do you use heart of rage instead of appratus? also what are the best weapons? i have the shannox heroic axe + rag normal mode mace.. not sure which one is best even though they are both similar.


More importantly, could you quickly state what you do at the start of a fight when it comes to CDs etc..

I use the 4piece prot 'trick' + pre pot > get 3 hp and put inqu up> get 3 hp then AW + zeaL and if apratus is at 3 stacks i use that too... is this correct? Also my essence trinket is macro to AW...

The Apparatus is not necessarily a "brilliant" trinket as it only stacks on critical strikes. Your critical strike chance is typically quite low (my 359/372 retribution gear has about 6% crit unbuffed), and thus gaining a full set of 5 stacks of the Apparatus of Khaz'goroth's buff can take longer than the ramp-up to zealotry does (worst case scenario is 4 Crusader Strikes to get the 4 HoPo for Inq and Zealotry, which is about 15-16 seconds). I am not sure if it is worth sacrificing one or two stacks of the Apparatus to synch it's use with Zealotry and Avenging Wrath, I would need to ask our guild's retribution paladin guru. Bear in mind the trinket was buffed to 508 Mastery rating per stack when used from just over 300, that is 1.1 mastery per stack you are missing out on by doing so.

Thanks Jorj for your reply. Yeah I ended up using Essence of the Eternal Flame and Heart of Rage, I could reforge to gain better stats. I am now trying Vessel of Acceleration with Essence of the Eternal Flame although I have droped in mastery, haste and crit. I am hoping the constant strength supplied by Vessel of Acceleration is better than the increased stats gained from Heart of Rage.

You might be doing something wrong but I can't tell what from just your armory, post some logs or parses from a raid boss.

From talking to the retribution paladin in my guild, the weapons are

heroic Sulfuras > heroic Shannox > normal sulfuras > normal Shannox

is the prio system you should be using, with Inq cast and refresh at 1HP.

Are you still using this prio system now that we are at the end of 4.2 and coming up on 4.3?
..also wondering what you use set Inq Cast/Refresh to now that we don't have T11 set bonus any more?
