Hi, I am new to WOTLK and this is my first toon. I have leveled my blacksmithing to get a cobalt set and plant to make a savage saronite set at 78. Does it seem to reason that I would be able to run with the gear I have on until then, picking up a piece here or a piece there as I go? I think that my stats are good enough for 70 but I don't know about the in-between. Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have one more socket I can add with an eternal belt buckle and I plan on adding more stamina.

I think I would go with the tempered saronite set for the added defense!?

Yes, the tempered saronite set is a good place to start when you near 80. Before you get that, there's the cobalt set of items, they are good to have and quite cheap to craft.

There's also the Daunting Legplates and Handguards that have big ammounts of defense and will make reaching the defense cap a bit easier.
