Help with tanking gear?

Need some help guys.

Awhile back maybe a month ago before patch 3.3.3 I was having threat problems, I was running VoA 25man and I was being told over vent that I needed to keep aggro and build more aggro and I couldn't do it.

I know If I want to be a successful tank I need to know more then I do. Basically Enchant,Gem,and other stats I should know about. I would show you my wow armory page but I was hacked so I don't have my gear on. So ill give you a written version of what I have.

What should I do? I put this on the wow forums and people said I should get a higher expertise and hit and they said that was my problem. But I think its rotation and build what do you think if you need anything else please let me know!

The first thing that jumped out at me, though unrelated to your threat generation, was that you are activating you metagem with a purple gem placed into a yellow socket. Regem your helm and place that purple gem in your leggings.

The second spec should increase your threat gen by a noticable amount. The 2 points in focus rage and 3 additional in sheild specialisation could be moved around but will not really impact much in my opinion.

Could you post your glyph choice since has a great impact on your threat gen. More so that gems and enchants



There are several other issues all unrelated to threat gen, they include weapon enchant. Blood Draining is usually the one of choice.
Replace your chest enchants with 275 health
Consider Tuskarr's Vitality on boots
Change your trinkets to stam or armour ones. Most easily available are the Black heart from 5man ToC normal and Glyph of Indomitability from Emblems of Triumph

A glyph of devastate should make threat a non issue. Use could use a glyph of vigilance as a band aid but I suspect that you need to optimise your rotation/keybindings . Decribe what you do to build threats as best you can.

I had your gear (different boots and neck) less than a month ago with no threat issues but I might have jsut been lucky.

If you do manage to fix your threat change you gloves enchant to 18 stam or 240 armour

Sheild bash is a rage efficient threat move for when starved not for general purpose tanking so I would suggest removing it from your threat rotation.
I assume thunder clap is used early for the mitigation. Since you should charge in with a sheild block up you can afford to delay it until after a few GCDs, I personally use it as my third move most of the time
Sheild Slam is better than shockwave if with sheild block, I cannot recall what is better without sheild block, so use that first
No need to thunderclap more than once every 29seconds on single targets.

To prevent yourself getting rage staved and to allow you to spam heroic dtrike earlier in the initial stages it may help to use berzerkers rage

Use thunderclap every 25-30 seconds to keep the debuff on, there's absolutely no reason to spam it on a single target.

There is no rotation. Paladins have a rotation.

Prioritize your moves according to the situation.
-If you constantly have 60% rage, Heroic Strike should always be taking place instead of melee strikes (Cleave if more than one target).
-Shockwave is a bit of mixed blessing, as it does a nice chunk of damage and mitigates incoming hits with its stun, but the lack of hits during the stun can also Rage starve you. Plan accordingly.
-Devastate is your friend (you even glyphed it). Where is it in your opener?
-Shield Slam is a really really good threat move, you should be keeping it on Cooldown at all times, and staying on top of Sword and Board procs.

Typical multi-target aggro problems are one of two things:
1) You do have aggro on *most* of the mobs, but a few leak out and eat your healer/dps/etc. If you are "leaking" mobs, that means you have to work on your AoE positioning. Charge in, T-Clap, BACKPEDAL A BIT with a Cleave, and as they all trail you to follow, they will form a very nice cone which works for your Shockwave. If you don't do this you may miss a few. Also, if you do happen to miss a few (mobs running at various speeds, casters stopping to cast, etc.) you either have to work hard to pick them up or hope that you have a FoKing Rogue with TotT or a Misdirecting Volley from a hunter to save your Bacon.

2) You just lose all aggro on everything. You have a general aggro problem (gearing, skills, or DPS is not waiting).

If you are having single target issues, then you just need to re-adjust your opener a bit. I usually
Bloodrage (insert Shield Block if you need extra SBV)
Charge
Shield Slam
TClap (for mitigation, you might push this down if you really are struggling with single target aggro)
Devastate
Shield Slam if Sword and Board procced
Other things (demo shout, shield bash if it's casting something nasty, etc.)
etc..

Push hard to get your 5 stacks of Sunder Armour up while Shield Slamming, and you should see an improvement. As for Mocking Blow, you could weave it in, but you don't have either of the glyphs for it, so it's a bit marginal.

Finally, consider a DPS weapon if being Def capped or survival is not a stake.

Only use 1 purple gem to hit the meta bonus, other than that, gem stamina. Expertise and hit aren't necessary to gem for. If you need your taunt to not miss, glyph it for that fight. Threat is 90% based on rotation and maybe 3% on gear.

Use this one instead, Cruelty is semi-worthless, most of your abilities have high crit from talents anyway, you're way better off with the AP from Armored to the Teeth. You also skipped one-hand spec and gag order. 2 very large damage talents.

Rotation (feeling like a broken record posting this): Shield Block, Shield Slam, Revenge, Shockwave, Devastate. Add in Heroic strike when rage is abundant, cut it out when you drop below 50ish. In your situation I would leave the first thunderclap until you've gotten a few sunders up, a decent threat lead would help you out tremendously.

I read the guide you linked, and frankly I find it to be garbage. Try this one instead.

For an opener I usually use:

Heroic Throw/Bloodrage (I've macro'd these together)
Charge
Thunder Clap
Shield Slam

Then I start in with Devestate and Heroic Strike until Revenge or Shield Slam is back up. Revenge and Shield Slam generate a large amount of threat so you want to make sure you are using them every time they're off CD, and be watching for your Sword and Board proc. If you find yourself having a hard time knowing when those abilities are off CD or when your Sword and Board is up, I'd suggest getting a mod to help make it stand out a bit. I use Mik's scrolling combat text, and I have seen some that use Power Auras as well.

By using both Bloodrage and Charge I never really find myself hurting for initial rage so I can start with HS/Cleave right away. If it's an AOE group I toss in shockwave after TC and use cleave instead of Heroic Strike.
