I'm thinking about using the Royal Guard because, gemmed and enchanted, I get 28 more stam at the risk of losing 349 armor, and ~1% dodge but gain ~1% parry.

The armor puts the Crystal Plated ahead in terms of physical EHP imo. If that's all you take into consideration then there's hardly any difference.

+20 str. Crystal plated, IMO.

Unless you're talking about the Heroic version of the Bulwark, yeah, Crystal.

Very, very close. 349 armor slightly outweighs 28 stam, in most situations, and then when you factor in the small amount of everything else you gain (strength, avoidance, block value) the Crystal Plated Vanguard wins out by a tiny tiny bit.
I agree that the heroic version of Bulwark kicks the crap out of regular CPV (and Neverending Winter too, for that matter).
