Gnome tanking Anub adds

Hello Tankspot,

My guild hit Anub heroic a few months back and we've downed him every week successfully after our first kill. We were using a 3 tank strategy with me and another warrior picking up 2 adds each, no MD's or Tricks. Now, I had some problems with the adds getting behind me too often for my taste gibbing me, but we mostly related it to RNG. However, the officers tell me it happens more often to me than to the other tank. Our only difference being I have more BV than him in my gear, he is a dwarf, I am a gnome. We figured it was because of the gnome hitbox being smaller so I started using fish. No real improvement. me and the other tank frapsed our tanking of the adds to compare and we basically did the exact same thing, with him having a slightly shorter path to the Permafrost patch. I tried backpaddling, I tried strafing, I tried getting BoF from a paladin once I got onto the Permafrost, did not really seem to help. In the end both us warriors were swapped out for 2 paladin tanks (1 being a dps swapping specs) for our 50 attempt kill because it removed something the guild saw as RNG.

So basically I am asking if there are any other gnome warriors out there tanking Anub adds? Because what is happening at the moment is a lot of the players in the guild suddenly think I am a bad tank, and constantly try to pin everything on me. Even when I die to lack of healing, it was somehow my fault. Like on Putricide yesterday when P3 hit, I was dragging him to a side as announced on vent, and got killed by melee hits while the healers were spamming our Druid tank whilst he was combatressing a dead dps.

Do I have to racechange?

Your hitbox isn't the problem - as far as the game is concerned you and the dwarf are the same size.

We haven't downed Anub heroic, but I (gnome) solo tank the adds and don't have a problem with them being behind me.

I would suggest you and he changing locations, but keeping all misd's, positioning the same, a small difference in angle of mobs may be the issue - are your misds coming in sooner than his, causing the angles to be different? OK just reread your thread about no misds etc, in that case what is your latency like compared to him - are you battling to keep them ahead of you because what you see is not what the server sees?

My main problem on Anub was disappearing into some of the paving stones and suddenly getting a screen that was completely grey

Basically the adds seem to warp after me, not run. It usually happens when we gather the adds on the frost patch or right before, indicating that it happens when they get 4 stacks of the haste. My latency ranges from 150-200ms lately as my TP cable is outdoors and it is freezing cold here :P

I'd suggest your connection is more likely a culprit than your diminutive stature.

Well if that is the case, its good in some way and bad in another. My latency seem to be affected by the cold weather (its been -10 to -21 Celsius for about a month now) and I can not do much about that, but atleast I dont have to racechange. The other tank has quit so I cant ask him what his latency is like to confirm though

I play a tauren, and it happens to me too. You just have to work around it. Blizz, whether intentionally or not, messed something up in 3.3 with mob positioning. I realized it on day on, packs were working their way behind me and I was always backing up to keep them in front. Advice? Clever use of your mouse for jumpshot turning and positioning. Unless/until Blizz fixes the mechanic, we have to work with what we got.

I stand still and rely on MD and TotT. The more you move around, the higher the chance of them running through you.

Also the server interprets strafing differently then running, try one then the other, see if you notice a difference. I stand almost perfectly still so I have no opinion on which is better.

BoF does make a huge difference if the mobs are pathing all over you.

That is the thing, I am aware of the 3.3 pathing but we hit Anub way before 3.3 was released. I have tried strafing and backpaddling, whilst strafing I would use my mouse to quickly face the mobs to get a cleave and a SS/Deva off. Also, I am working with what i've got, it's just that i've been sidelined :P

I've tried strafing as opposed to backpaddling and it did not really make a difference. As our strategy revolves around tanks running to pick up adds, I can't really ask for an MD or TotT without slightly changing the strategy. I've also tried BoF when I am on top of the permafrost. I have written most of these things in the OP but thanks for helping anyways

People do tend to a bit readily jump on the bandwagon when it comes to casting the blame when gnomes are involved. I feel for you.

If latency is your problem which I suspect it is at least in part, you may be able to fix that a bit with some registry changes. There is a download on wowinterface called "Leatrix Latency Fix" which is a couple of scripts that will set it for you. I've read somewhere, sorry I don't have it handy that this issue was supposed to be fixed ages ago by blizzard but I can tell you from my personal experience and a few people that I have recommended it to that it does indeed work quite well.. One of the scripts included will back out the changes if you don't like them, or they cause you other problems... I've experienced none.

Without it all the computers in my house that run WoW (5) sit on avg at 250ms, with the fix in place its 80-100ms. 3 of them run XPsp2 and the other two are Win7.
