    Warrior Tank - gem/spec /enchant tips

Hi there I have been playing wow for some time as a NELF warrior and love the role of tank but with ICC was wondering if there is anything i may need to change? (esp with the chill of the throne etc..) I have always worked hard to get the best gear I can and enchant and gem it up but after chatting to some tanks was wondering if there was something I may need to change to my current set up.. I notice loads of tanks go stam gem mental eg soild blues all round ....Where I have always gone for stam but also dodge/ parry hit and exp...to get a good balance ...I get 47k hp on 25 icc when full buffed etc...but should I change my current outlook...eg are stam gems all round the way to go.... or best to get more stam less exp etc.. also I have ench and bs which are great for the ring and sockets but do you think that JC would serve me better than ench?(ench does make me nice gold as well!)....So any help and advice would be great

    cheers in advance Dizz

If you're looking at entering ICC 10 and 25 you should really look at boosting your effective health some more. Avoidance is great an everything, but you can't avoid all attacks and it's total RNG, if the dice roll bad 1-2 times in a row you'll find yourself as a stain on the floor. You want to be around 40k health unbuffed as a minimum, if you can get more great!

My recommendations are to resocket your gear for pure stamina ignoring bonuses unless it's 9 or 12 stamina (I infact ignore all but 12, but that's personal preference) with the nelf 2% miss racial you've got a nice little avoidance booster anyway

Check the PvP enchant for your shoulders, it costs 10k honor (single wintergrasp quest) and will give you an additional 30 stamina on your gearing.

I'd also recommend putting 275 health enchant on your chest.

If you don't have any start seeking out some stamina trinkets, there's some great options:

-The ones from totc are ideal - I believe it's the scarab for alliance (192 stamina and on use of 4k health for 25 man normal mode).

-You could also look back to ulduar for the trinket from 25m Ignis, not quite as much stamina but still a great trinket!

-Lets not forget the new emblems of frost trinket as well, but you may have your eyes on something else, but the 226 stamina is awesome.

-If you can't get your hands on these fast then try farming totc normal mode for the black heart from the final boss, 126 stamina and chance to proc armor increase. Although again below the raid trinkets in terms of pure stam, it's still a great trinket.

-If really desperate there's the stamina trinket from AN heroic second boss.

Another option for boosting effective health is to increase your armor value, at the moment I'd say you still need a big boost to stamina but taking 225 armor on cloak is also a sneeky little boost.

Weapon enchant - this has been a somewhat debated topic for some time now. It is generally accepted that blade ward is the worse of the three main enchants, with Blood Draining being second and the majority of tanks opting for Mongoose still. I'm still somewhat torn on this and have been considering Blood Draining again, but I'm likely to stick with Mongoose on my MT weapon.

Threat generation - socketting for all stamina and not threat increasing stats like str, hit and expertise will give a hit to your threat generation but with decent rogues, hunters and a solid threat generation talent build you should be fine. I've noticed a few odd choices in your protection build like improved spell reflect, this is purely a PvP talent, in fact I can only think of one situation in a raid where it would be handy - phase 2 of Malygos to reflect the arcane bolts.

This is pretty much your base MT all around mitigation and threat build with two points left over, my recommendation is to put them in improved revenge but this is more personal preference.

Talent Calculator - World of Warcraft

You can always move the 3 points from focused rage upto Shield Specialisation if you find yourself with plenty of rage to go around at all times (this happens a lot in ICC due to the 20% dodge reduction).

You can always put your spare points into cruelty, but I find I already crit pretty frequently given talents and raid buffs.

    Glyphs :

-Devastate is really your only "OMG TAKE THIS GLYPH" choice.

For the rest it's down to personal preference and raid setup with your other tanks, I have glyph of taunt right now due to the low hit rating on totc gear - but i'll probably be changing this around once i've got a bit more ICC gear that seems loaded with hit.

Other choices are Glyph of shield wall, with the imp disciplines talent it brings your SW down to 40% but just a 2 minute CD. This is more something I change when I need it rather than a constant thing, we have another Warrior that has this in all the time to fill that role if needed.

Glyph of blocking, despite us losing some SBV moving from totc to ICC gearing, I'm still rather tempted by this glyph as it has a superb uptime and has a dual function of increasing threat while also increasing mitigation, even if by only a tiny bit.

There are plenty of things you could change to gain more EH. One thing would be to go stam gem mental as you noted. If you want socket bonuses or to activate your meta, use gems with stam on them, ie dodge/stam. In most cases you do not want to get the socket bonus unless it is 9 stam or more. Replace your parry/stam gem in your shoulders with a 30 stam definitely. Although having quite a bit of hit doesn't hurt, it is really unnecessary as long as you continue to hold aggro. I would try to sacrifice quite a bit of those hit gems for 30 stams.

I did not see a head enchant; the tanking enchant comes from the argent crusade, exalted. A lot of your other enchants could be changed too. The pvp enchant gives you 30 more stam for your shoulders. Enchant armor to cloak, health to chest, 18 stam from leatherworking armor kits to gloves. Get the stam trinket from toc-5 regular.
