Thread: Expertise

  1. Expertise

Hi. I am playing as a fury warrior and my expertise is currently 17/22. I have hit the soft hit cap and I am with 33.28% crit and 4.7k AP UB.

I am not really certain about the importance of hitting 26 expertise as my currently expertise is after gemming 3 slots of gear for expertise, reducing my AP by at least 120(3 20 str gem slots).

Since I am not yet at the expertise cap, do I have to replace all my str gem slots with expertise until I hit the cap and then slowly replace them as I get more expertise from gear?

You don't have to, but getting you expertise closer to 26 (23-24) will net a decent dps increase. Remember: if you don't hit the boss, you don't do any dps.

  3. Hi vine. I tested attacking a heroic dummy and it appears that the max my dps can go is about 2.5k only when I have around 4.8k ap UB! Is that supposed to be the normal scaling or is the expertise deficit that I have really causing my dps to be that much lower?

  4. Unbuffed, and with the lack of expertise cap (or being near to it) I would say that sounds about right. Going and hitting the dummies is a fairly useless exercise as a fury warrior unless you have a shammy friend thats willing to come drop his totems. Fury scales insanely well with all raid buffs so don't worry yourself about that.

Personally I tend to go for about 24 expertise, as this just seems to be the amount gear gives me, and I haven't really seen any need to hunt those last two points, from looking at guild parses I hardly ever see any dodges taking place.

  5. As fury the minimum I will ever roll with expertise is 24. Also hitting dummy as fury is practically useless, best you will go on a dummy is 2.5k or 3k maybe.

I would gem/enchant for expertise till 24 minimum.

  6. Just one more question.. if my expertise is 17/22 then its 17 not 22 right? Thanks for all that great help

  7. Its 17 main hand, 22 off hand... probably you get racial expertise for weapon in off-hand.

Looks like dwarves get a mace specialization as racial, can anyone confirm this?

Also for you I would re-enchant hand and bracer's with expertise before re-gemming as its easier and cheaper.

Another thing, boss dummies act as bosses. If you were not attacking from behind (in this case, the dummy not facing you), and this was the case, then the added blocks probably brought yoru DPS down substantially.

Confirmed. Dwarves get an additional 5 expertise (not expertise rating) when using maces; however in this case, as the mace is being used in the off-hand only the off-hand weapon benefits from this. This accounts for the 17/22 expertise.

  10. yes. dwarves do get 5 expertise from maces.

As mentioned take dummy dps with a grain of salt. I always try and test when Im alone there as other players buffs affect your dps. They may stop using the dummy while you're testing. Example: I was testing my ret offset and was doing 4k, then an Unholy DK, Shaman, and Lock turned up - my dps went up to about 5.5k

I know it seems strange gemming the expertise over strength, but that is what you need to do to get to at least 24/24. Above that, strength will likely get you more dps.

Look into your triumph gear (it tends to have substantial expertise on it) and ToC10 drops. Ideally you will hit the cap with your gear, but when trying to build the gear set you will find that you need to gem for it.

Yeah, I was just playing with the Fury Warrior spreadsheet tonight(landsoul's) and noticed that when I went from 20 expertise with all str gems(epic gems), and then put in 1 epic expertise gem, and 1 JC expertise gem, I hit the soft-cap and my dps went up about 85-100dps.

If you're not at 26 expertise you should definitely get there, it will net you a dps increase. Do it with epic gems by the way, when I switched around chants for it, I lost more important chants and it wasn't nearly a dps increase it was with switching two gems for it.

  14. Hello all,

I am just wondering some questions with Expertise. When first starting out with raiding, I am not sure if I should gem up Expertise because mine is really low. Any advice would be great. I normally do about 2.5k-3k dps per boss fight, but I would really like to pump this up just a bit. I understand that my gear is not of highest standards, but I am just starting to raid and need some advice.

PS: I will be getting t9 shoulders soon, but this doesnt have anything to do with expertise issue at hand.

    Thank you in advance.

You may want to make a thread in the Halp! section as the upgrades you should be aiming for are quite extensive.

To answer the question about your expertise: you are at 8, you need 26. Yes you should gem it.

what about tanks? triumph gear seems lacking on expertise. Is someone out there that's on the cap without gemming for it?

Actually triumph gear and ToC/T9 gear and so full of expertise its not even funny. I am contantly struggling to maintain some decent hit.

75 Triumph emblem helm and shoulders all have expertise.
