Thread: How to "farm" gold in World of Warcraft

  1. How to "farm" gold in World of Warcraft

    There are many sites out there that can tell u what i am wirting here. If you would like to puruse them by all means go for it.

    Anyways i was going through the forums and there wasnt really any good threads about how to make gold in WoW. so i thought why not write one for the general public. As this is my first real thread on this site i am hopeing for some feedback. Also this isnt a straight up get you 1000G in an an hour, but farming techniques that i have found on the web.

    Level 5-10

    Ok so here we go. First level your toon up to 5, preferably you should level it up to 10, but level 5 works well. ok now you have your lvl 5-10 toon, go to any major city and learn the professions Mining, Herbilism and Skinning. ok now go around ur starting area and gather the ore, herbs and skins u can. now go to the AH and find a medium price for ur wares. On my server, copper ore goes for 3-5G/stack, Light leather goes for 4-5G/stack and peacebloom goes for 3-4G per stack. in an average hour i can mine 25 nodes (about 2.5 stacks/hour), i can skin about 50 animals (about 2.5 stacks/hour) and i can gather about 50 nodes of herbs (about 3 stacks/hour). all up if u are using 2 gathering skills you can make about 15-20G/hour depending on demand and how well your servers AH is going.

    Light feathers is another good awy to make gold in WoW. Because most professions and some classes use Light feathers as regents/mats, this is good for low level toons as most of the flying things in azeroth drop Light feathers. Now on my sever they sell for 3G/stack, but it could be different on your server.

    Level 30+

    This tip is for Desolace, Shadowprey Village. Just west of the Shadowprey dock in the water you will find submerged cages scattered around the sea floor. You need to open these cages for the rewards they contain. Most often they will drop shellfish or spawn a level 33-34 mob. However, they also occasionally drop other valuable items such as Big Iron Fishing Poles. I tend to find 2-3 per hour. These Fishing Poles sell on most servers for 14-25g. Add that to the close to 50s repeatable reward for 5 shellfish and vendor trash sells, and one can easly make 40-85g an hour.

    Level 60 and Below

    Here are some good grinding areas that always give u gold, vendor trash and some rare or common items, also runecloth.

    1) Azshara - Azshara is one of the more popular World of Warcraft gold farming spots and for good reason. There are a few different approaches you can take here, but I would recommend heading to the north mid area first. You can start out with the Massive Timbermaws, than head further east to reach the Blood Elves. Blood Elves will drop Runecloth once they are killed, and there is always a market for Runecloth. I have also had a lot of success grinding on Legashi Demons. Legashi Demons will drop blues, greens, and occasionally even epics.

    2) EPL - Eastern Plaguelands where there are a lot of creatures and monsters you can kill for gold.Although WoW Gold Farming in the Easter Plaguelands can take a while as the creatures do not drop masses of gold they still tend to drop more then in most areas of the game. If you have a few hours though and want to make a lot of gold WoW Gold Farming this is the spot for you.The first creatures that you should kill for WoW Gold Farming is the Mossflayer Zombies and although they do not drop masses of goodies they are quite east to kill. The main reason you should use the zombies for WoW Gold Farming is they drop runecloth on a regular basis and this can be sold for big money.

    Level 60 - 70

    around this level you should really be focusing on easy dungeons that you can solo. Now there are a couple of easy instances, such as stratholme, black rock depths, dire maul and other lower ones are helpful. the items and gold they drop can be sodl to a vendor or put on the AH for a reasonable price. also this is solo able for any characters at level 70.

    level 80

    There are many ways for you to make gold at level 80. mining is a good profession as you can mine saronite and titanium and sell them on the AH for huge profits. Skinning is also a good profession as you can sell borean leather, icy dragon scale, narubian chitin and artic fur and sell them on the AH for huge profits.

    Dungeons such as Hellfire ramparts, blood furnace, slave pens and mana tombs can be good gold/run, also the green items and vendor trash you can get anything from 70-100G/hour.

    Hope this helps you get your epic flying mount or whatever you need to buy. Please feel free to leave a comment and if you would like me to investigate anything further by all means please ask.

    anyways thanks for your time.

  2. Easiest way I've found to make gold:

    1. Become a JC
    2. Buy uncut epic gems on the cheap on the weekends (~100-110gp per).
    3. Cut the gems and re-sell them during the week.

    You'll make 1-3kgp per week this way w/o doing any grinding whatsoever. Level your alt instead w/ the time saved!

  3. yeah i was just doing a general guide to ppl i was going to amend it later when i remember what else i need to add.

    also at lvl 80 you can "farm" relics of ulduar. a 200 stack on my server sells for 350g and they sell fast if you have a average buyout on them.

    kinda assuming this is being read by tanks...

    Nexus non heroic. Soloable at 80 (OK you need some gear for this one so it isnt much use if you are saving up for the 200 titansteel helmet). I pull a good 100g cash + grays + greens + blues, can all add up to 200-300g per run when I have it all disenchanted and on the AH. A single trash group can be worth over 10g (2 grays for 3g.10, 1 green dis to 2 dust, 90s-1g50 cash in each mob).

    Plus you can boost guildie alts for 40% of a level

  5. I'm heading over to nexus to attempt it as I'm writing this. I'm very excited about the premise of this thread. I'm one of those people whose really bad with gold. I do my dailies, leveling up my professions, so forth so on. The population on my server is a little bit low, but the AH is watched 24/7 by a couple of people. I tried entering the AH, only to make marginal profits.

    The problem I have is that I'm an altaholic (counting 10 80's atm). Whenever I get one to 80, I want to gear it up, so gems and enchant costs are cost me tons. As of now, I've settled on the two characters I will be playing for 3.3. I have my prot/fury warrior main (and latest 80), and my resto/ele shaman alt (so that I have all four roles covered). Since I've settled, I'm just now raising funds for epic flying mounts/greatness card for warrior/ titansteel for crafted 245 gear. Costs are ... high.

    I'd like to hear more ways of getting some coin as tanks that are guaranteed. I have mining/herbing maxed on a farmer toon, incription/alch on the shaman, and working on ench/JC on my warrior.

    "# The following reputations have been sped up by roughly 30%:
    * Argent Crusade
    * Alliance Vanguard
    * Horde Expedition
    * Kirin Tor
    * Knights of the Ebon Blade
    * Sons of Hodir
    * Wyrmrest Accord
    # Sons of Hodir quests now give more reputation overall."

    I've no idea how much of a change this will mean, but potentially it will mean a lower income from relics of Ulduar.

  7. Just a quick comment:

    After trying to first couple of pulls in nexus on my protection warrior, I realized its much harder than I thought it would be, and slower than I anticipated. I was there solo, so that may have been why it was so slow.

    The problems I had were: rage starvation due to not taking enough damage which led to low damage output because I didn't have rage. When I tried to take more mobs to increase rage input, survivability came into question.

    So, the journey I'm on to find my way of making decent coin continues. I don't think the soloing of reg nexus will work for me.

    Side note: I'm currently leveling enchanting through the BC range and am having trouble getting arcane dust. Anybody have tips an efficient way of getting some?

    You don't get much gold for saronite on the AH.

    You need a certain gear setup and spec to do it effectively, blood thirst / prot with lots of blocking. But still, it's not really more efficient than doing dailies for gold, but it's way more interesting.

    You can solo kara too, I managed to clear up to aran in about 2 hours and made ~400g, but that involved a few wipes learning the best way to deal with the fight and some accidental trash aggro. Plus the big bad wolf is annoying if you get him.

  10. Unfortunately, I have to keep a pve tank and pve dps spec most of the time, so respeccing for this farming method would not be easy.

    I love doing dailies, (except jousting .....grrrr....). The problem I have with dailies is that the bulk of the time is spent flying from quest spot to quest spot. Watching hulu while doing dailies helps pass the time, but again, I'm just looking for efficiency.

    AT dailies, 4 valiant, 4 champion, 8 quests at 13.50g each with 4 x champions purses at 10g each comes in at ~150g for 25 min effort. (assuming no downtime and able to solo chillmaw, which is true for the warrior druid and paladin)

    I'll step up the amount of characters I do the dailies on: warrior, shaman, druid, paladin until I find another way of making g.

    You're missing the real money maker here.

    Wool.

    Yes, Wool. For some reason it can sell for 20g or more per stack without much trouble. It's easy to farm as well, so I don't really get it. But I do exploit it.

    Hmm, I sell leatherworking armorpatches and legarmors from leatherworking and bullets and arrows from engineering: makes enough to keep the dailies away.

    Unfortunately, I play alliance side where wool is abundant.

    Even Alliance side seems to pay through the nose for wool. It's almost as if they've forgotten Stocks exists.

    I know I'm going to regret this, but here's my secret. I use my main and 2 alts to generate the dough.

    My main is a Jewelcrafter Blacksmith. I make no money with BS. I troll the AH and buy Saronite. Preferably below 16g/stack. I buy eternal earth in bulk from a miner (~5g per earth).

    I prospect all those saronites ore and make rings and ammy's from the citrine, bloodstone, chalcedony, and amber. I save the dark jade and shadow crystal for my JC daily xmute. All the blue quality gems go to my two alchemists.

    My alts are both alchemists, one with herbing, one with enchanting (ones transmute spec, the other is pot spec, for max dough get both transmue). I take all those rings and ammy's and dust them. Getting 1-3 dust or 1-2 lesser essences (we see regular prices of 7g per dust, and 15 per greater essence). I transmute with my two alchemists daily and sell the epic gems.

    This method took me sometime to set-up and is dependent on AH price points. It also requires a fair chunk of capital to start with. The amount you make is based entirely on how much you feel like sitting in org and mashing 2 macros and the price of saronite / eternal earth / dust. I've made over 15k gold in a week with this method.

    Current Approx price points for me to do business:

    Saronite Orex20 = 16.5g
    Primal Earth = 6g per
    Dust = 6g per.

    Each prospect gives me on average ~1.25 green gems, .25 blue gems.

    Therefore for each stack of ore I'm looking at ~ average 4 usable green gems per stack, and one blue gem. Each green gem requires 2 crystallized earth to make a piece of jewelery. So for 22.5g I've purchased the ore and eternal for 4 pieces of junk JC made jewelery. Even if each of those junk jewelery only dusts for one dust, and each prospect only yields one green gem... I've still made 24g from 22.5g; with a blue quality gem left over.

    Transmute that blue quality gem, cut it, and I'm looking at ~140g for it. Bringing my total on that one stack of saronite and one eternal to at least 165 gold from 22.5g worth of mats. Your profit goes up with extra green quality gems on prospects, and extra dust per transmute.

    drae i don't think your giving away to many secrets there, anyone savvy enough to play the AH will know which professions to use to maximise profit.

    The majority of the posts on here talk about farming mats/dailys, neither of which i find particularly enjoyable or profitable.

    Playing the AH is far more entertaining to me and far more pofitable. I only started playing wow in TBC, i levlled my first character, a Dwarf Paladin, to 70 in about 10 days played, however in that 10 days i'd manage to crack the intricacies of the AH and the moment i dinged 70 i was able to purchase my epic flying skill and mount. I had no external assitance and had never played wow before yet purely through AH trading i amassed 6000G.

    Currently buying uncut epic gems, cutting and reselling them is by far the most profitable use of the AH for me.

    It's also worth buying up mats in advance of any new patch. For example in preperation for 3.3 i'm currently stocking up on both Titansteel bars and Moonshroud. Why you might ask? Well when the new patch hits it'll be a mere few hours until Crusader Orbs are trading for pennys, at that point the world and is wife will be looking to get the crafted chest and bracers and the cost of the mats used to make those items will skyrocket.

  17. How to make $$

    All i have done is bought Crusader Orbs Titansteel bars and Eternal Earths and made the Tanking bracers and chest, I have made about 30000 gold in 6 weeks.

    Tanks were paying up to 9k for the bracers and 14k for the chest week in week out on the Nagrand server.

    I will do the same with the craftables in Icecrown until I get to 50000 gold then ill stop

    While taking advantage of such things is good, afaik the transmute titanium bar will lose its cooldown so there will probably be more titanium bars on the market lowering the cost of mats to make titansteel bars.

    However titansteel still seems to have a 20hr cd.

    Similarly, arctic fur can be made from 8 or 10 heavy borean leather? (That's a bit hear-say but warants investigation)

    Dust is going for about 1g50s - 2g on Khadgar

    I've read a lot of places about this strategy. Unfortunately the market on my server is saturated. Dust is 3g per, Primal Earth is 10-12g per, and Saronite Ore is 18-20g per. It leaves no margin of profit.
