    ArP and Sunder

How does sunder armor work with ArP?

Does the 20% reduction apply before you resist their armor, or after?

    Or what...

"armor reduction" abilities (sunder, faerie fire/curse, shattering throw) reduce a mob's armor, then your "armor penetration" works on the leftover armor. you need 100% personal arp, 5 sunders, faeire fire/curse, and shattering throw all up to reach the least amount of armor on a boss.

say a boss has 10k armor, 5 sunders (20% armor reduction) takes the armor down to 8k. your armor penetration works on that 8k.

Actually your armor pen works off the total amount of boss armor, it just is not 100% effective, 100% arp does not ignore 100% armor. Instead it ignores "up to 100%"

Another way of phrasing it is that the boss has 100% armor. Sunder, ArPen, and other abilities generally stack together, so you can reach 100% armor ignore. The cap is early in 3.1, you could get pass 100% armor pen and get additional bonus damage, which was extremely vicious. The cap just sets an upper limit on the damage increase.

The two current 3.2 thoughts are A. Get to 25% innate ArPen (talents/stance/gear), rely on Sunder or Expose Armor (25% either) and Grim Toll/Mjolinor procs to hit 100%. Otherwise, B. passively stack ArPen (usually for lacking the necessary trinket).

That is pretty incorrect - you can not simply add the reduction from sunders and your personal arp. If you want to rely on proc from Mjolnir, you can have passively around 50% arp from egar and still do not get anything wasted.

whoever is having the first thought should go read up on how armor penetration and armor reduction work together. sunder/faerie fire/shattering throw are NOT additive to your personal armor penetration.

armor reduction works on armor before your armor penetration.

(btw 5x sunder is 20% armor reduction, not 25%)
