Thread: Heroic anub'arak 10 man

  1. Heroic anub'arak 10 man

so we got the first 4 bosses down without too much of a problem then we get to anub'arak and we kinda got stumped. but we also didnt have the time to make more than one attempt

first of all, limited permafrost. we got i think only 8 orbs of it and blew it all early from ignorance. second, we didn't encounter any of the new adds mentioned in other thread on heroic differences. while we weren't successful we did get him to about 50%.

the part that really stumped us though is what we're supposed to do in phase 2 with limited permafrost. the method used for regular didn't work since we got down to 1 permafrost by the end of the first phase 2.

we got stumped in our 1 attempt so far but i thought i might throw it out there to get some ideas flowing.

  2. i haven't tried this boss personally so far, but just something of what i read about it: at least on 10man it seems to be brutforceable. you want to go 2 healer/1tank/7dps and bring him to p3 within only one phase 2, where you can use the permafrost.

add seems to come in p3 but can be offtanked accordingly aswell, just burn the boss.

You should either aim for only 1 burrowed phase, or only use 3 permafrost patches in that phase so you can get it in 2 phases (you have 6 orbs).

Took us about 10 tries to get it down, although we had to call it a night before we figured out why he heals up in p3.

  4. Got him to 10% but got tired and needed to sleep.

If your dps is decent you don't need to "brute-force" it. What we did was knock down ALL permafrost to start, our tank dragged Anub to the closest and our offtank taunted the adds to it. Keep in mind the adds have an ability called Shadow Strike (I think) that will 1shot anyone but a tank, hits for about 40k shadow dmg. We had a fan of knives rogue interupting. Incidental AoE took out the adds while we dps Anub down, getting him down in 1 submerge. We were just slow on P3, deciding now we should kill the adds as the spawn to save our lives.

EDIT: 3 heals 2 tanks 5 dps and still only got 1 submerge...all dps on anub, incidental aoe on adds

  5. Going to do this tomorrow so I might as well ask this beforehand... What are you guys doing with the permafrost that you have? Are you saving 1 patch to tank the adds (and boss, if stacked) on? For p2, do you use the permafrost at all to prevent impale or do you just kite him perfectly to avoid any damage? Basically I'm asking if it's more important to save the patches for preventing adds from burrowing or to help prevent damage in p2 from spikes?

  6. 10HM anub

So were pretty much 10man hm gear with norm 25. Minus our mt dcing in beasts we only had about 2 wipes prior to anub. We did the whole try and get him down before he burrows twice. Did fine problem was 3rd phase. The adds kept spawning so at times we had 4 up with most of our dps on boss minus a rogue aoe silencing bs.

I think tonight we are gonna give a shot to a kiting method so we waste more time and focus our dps on adds solely and aim for 2 borrows. Having adds spawning plus the tank dmg with our gear wasn't looking good, best attempt was at 19% also with no hero..... Wtb shammies lol.

  7. we killed him today and the way we did it was to burn him hard. to give you a little bit more detail: we used 2 tanks / 2 healer and 6 dps. the first set of adds was killed and interrupted by 2 melees + tank + some dots i put on them (i'm shadow priest). the 2nd set of adds was offtanked till the second phase. we aimed to get anub'arak down to at least 60% before he submerged.

in the kiting phase we used all the permafrost and spreaded out to kite him as long as possible and killed the 2 big remaining adds of the 1st phase. not that hard - but rng can favor or screw you here a little bit.

once he was on the ground again, we killed once again the first set of adds and then switchted all on anub'arak. we offtanked any adds from this point on, used bloodlust once he was on 30% and got him down.

we're 25man geared guild and dps was really close, really hard for a 10man guild i guess. in the first tries we tried to use 3 healer and dps the adds down in the third phase, but neither could we kill adds fast enough, nor did anub lose any hp (the healing was more than we dps'ed him).

    edit:
video of our kill (as i said, not that hard on tactics, but requires high dps):

  8. Hah, Sash! haven't heard that in a while. We got him tonight (41 tries left :/ ). All I can say is don't underestimate this fight. Even if you breezed through the first 4 bosses, this guy is still pretty challenging.

  9. My guild pretty much runs 10man content exclusively, and while we're all pretty geared from that content (proto-drakes and whatnot), Anub'arak last night was unbelievably hard.

We went into the fight with 2 tanks, 2 healers, and 6dps and were lucky to get him below 65% (with heroism) while also ensuring the first four adds were dead as phase 2 began. After that kind of showing, I'm really not sure how we get him below 30% on the next phase (and thus, have enough permafrost to kite him around).

Aside from that, we had trouble surviving the small beetles in phase 2 (their stacking debuff is no fun). Our group was basically a melee fest, which I'm guessing is just not well equipped to deal with that phase since it would seem that optimally you'd want range to be able to kill the beetles without having to be close to them.

We actually swapped to a rather melee heavy raid for Anub10 on hc to basically cleave the adds down, so a melee fest should work fine for you aswell. What we did to drop him fast enough was only killing the first 2 adds with melee (2 ranged on boss fulltime) and leaving the next 2 up for p2 while cleaves and incidental aoe took em to like 40-50%. Left us with anub just below 60% in one p1 without lust. For the adds in p2 just kill eachothers spawns since the one their chasing get ~20k treath and the adds got 19.8k hp you can kill them without getting the debuffs. When he gets back up you've got enough time to drop all 4 adds before p3 or just as it starts to help the offtank survive till the boss actually dies, but your first priority should be getting Anub to 30% on the timer, and finishing off the last add in the first 5 seconds after should be fine. Most likely you need lust for the last 30% so don't waste it on p1 to get there.

  11. We just killed him!

Lineup: Protpally, Blood DK tank, lock, fok rogue, fury, meleeshaman, mm hunter, disc priest, healshaman, resto druid

the aoe in p3 was too brutal and we had enough dmg to get him with 3 healers with a single p2 afterwards to p3 and then used heroism.

the mm-hunter(me) shot down all spheres in the beginning an burned down the adds together with ww/fok/...

quite challenging took us about 30 tries so no tribute

I am wondering what 10 mans are doing come phase 3 with the burrowers. It seems we are having the biggest issue with these adds. Each time they spawn pre-30% we kill the 1st set and OT the 2nd set. Once Anub burrows we kill the 2 that were being OT and kill the little adds. Once he comes back up we are killing the 1st set and then burning Anub to 30%. I am the tank for these and I will pull them off perma frost hoping 1 or both burrow (which is a crap shoot). Usually I am unlucky an neither burrow. Thats all well and good, I can handle 2 on me. At around 9%-10% the 2nd set spawn, which spells almost instant death for me.

Any suggestions on what your doing? I know its a DPS race but does the boss need to die before or right as those 2nd set of adds are coming?

Ive thought of switching DPS to kill those 2 adds but that would mean he wouldn't hit 30% and burrow anyhow which is a wipe because there is no frost down to kite through for the 2nd burrow.

Also, we are running 2 healers (disc/holy paladin) which in itself doesn't feel right. Due to the AoE damage put out at 30%. Pre-30% 2 single target healers manage fine. The disc priest is rotation his group heal on each group. However at times its not strong enough especially when someone has the dot. Problem is if the holy paladin peels to spot heal that 1 person a tank is getting killed.

Again any help is appreciated. We are at about 50 attempts in and need to sort these things out it seems to lock in a kill. So far 1% wipe is the best we have, usually wiping around 7% due to my death at the 2nd spawn of burrowers.

Pruke I think it would be in your best interest to kill any burrowers that are up when you transition to P3 and then do a straight burn on Anub. This is preferably where you would BL, but if you had to do so in order to push him to P3 in time, then no problem. Any adds after that you just want to offtank. When the second set of adds come while he is at ~10% health then you can pop a cooldown and maybe get an external cooldown to buy you the seconds you need. Either way you pretty much just have to kill him at that point or wipe.

  14. Pruke did you try to use SW and LS when second wave of adds come ?

Im a DK but yes, I tried using CD's helps some.

  16. Pruke, if your tank on Anub is a shield-wearer you might want to swap roles with them. Block is a huge help on adds on 10man (and so are warrior stuns).

  17. How easy it is to 1tank the heroic mode? We can occasionally bring him to 30% in 1 burrow phase without lust using 2/2/6(though some of us haven't equipped our new 245 weaps so I guess the upgrades will consistently give it to us).

I was thinking of doing 1/2/7, with bloodlust/pots and 30% hp modifier our dps should be able to do 7-9k+ per and maybe 50k(bit more cause of the 40% pally raid reduction for the first 15 seconds) raid dps after leeching and down him in 20 seconds, my armory isn't updated, I have about 51,400 hp with full buffs and talented commanding.

  18. We killed him by stopping DPS at 33%, bursting the adds as much as possible, switching back to Anub to prevent the second submerge, and then finishing off the adds.

It isn't very reliable but as DPS improves it won't be necesary. With higher DPS both 2-healer and 3-healer strategies will be viable.

  19. Couple of things:

    1. @ Gacckt: I'm really not sure single tanking this is a good (or even viable) idea. The reason being is the adds stack a debuff on you that increases your physical dmg taken. This will make anub hit you for unhealable amounts I have to imagine, especially when you get frozen and lose your avoidance. I understand the mentality for getting through the fight faster, but it may not be feasible.

2: One thing I have not seen mentioned here is healing tactics in phase 3. This is imperative to a kill since too much p3 healing will not only increase raid dmg taken and thereby put more strain on your healers but also will heal anub for a very significant amount. The way it works is it drains a % of your current health for the duration of p3. So if you keep people at a lower health, the % drained will be lower. Remember it will NEVER kill you. Only penetrating cold should be killing dps/heals. Just remember, you should aim to keep anyone that does not currently have penetrating cold (or the tank obv.) at around 10k health. This will let them survive the first tick of penetrating cold and will minimize the effect of the drain life.

  20. You can keep their health lower, it's 6K a tick.
