Thread: Holy Pally 3.2 and Beyond Healing

  1. Holy Pally 3.2 and Beyond Healing

As we are all waiting for the newest patch (some do not have time for ptr) and the upcoming changes to the Holy Pally, I would like to pick the brains of those that may have experienced or have a better understanding of the changes coming our way in regards to our SACRED SHIELD, BEACON and the best targets for these spells.

Also, how significant is the overhealing appearing on the PTR and will we still be considered the best heals for our tanks?? Or has our role somewhat changed?

I am class Leader for my guild would like any and all input

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Written with the knowledge Blizz makes additional, sometimes unpublished, changes to the patch...

I think Paladins will come away as stronger healers for MT assignments due to Sacred Shield adding a Heal Over Time component - for 100% of the Flash of Light cast! In addition, the 3.2 patch changes will make Beacon of Light a more effective spell since the effects are based on the total heal, not the effective heal.

And while I've heard many complaints on the mana return on Illumination being halved from 60% to 30%, the effects of this will be minimized because items with MP5 mana regeneration will be buffed by 25%.

Now regarding your concerns on overhealing, you are going to see Pally healers overhealing even more. However, I don't foresee this affecting a paladin's performance or role within a raid.

  3. If you have more than one holy pally in a raid, they may have to coordinate a bit regarding who they place their Sacred Shield on, since it's going to change to be only one SS per target... no more trying to stack Sacred Shields from multiple pallies on one person

Probably is made up for by the fact that we'll no longer have to coordinate who judges what, since JoL will be similar to JoW in that it gives a flat return to whoever hits the target, and since a ret or a prot pally's buff/debuff that comes with their judgments won't be overwritten anymore if someone isn't specced for said buff/debuff.

It really depends how versatile your raid team are.

There's no 2 ways about it, paladin mana regen is nerefed. If previously the Holy Paladin in your raid was dedictaed to healing the MT at the exspense of all else then the changes are for the worse. Holy Paladins will simply not be able to output the same amount of HPS for the same length of time as they can now.

However the beacon change is very powerful. Currently an ability that simply pads your overhealing meters will become massively more useful. A 2 paladin set up in a raid with both beaons on the MT will transfer a considerable amount of healing to the MT for free, whislt keeping other raiders alive.

The hot to sacred shield is somewhat weak, and probably only becomes effective with the T9 4piece bonus.

The only problem is deciding who your paladins are going to heal. On a fight like Ignis it would be easy, 1 pala on each OT, beacons and sacred shield +hots on MT. (probably want an additional heals on mt). However on a fight like Hodir things get a little more tricky.

  5. Well, it depends on what the paladin relied on for mana regen. I actually have no problems with the nerf to Illumination. Why? Because I'm usually able to position myself in a way so that I can whack on the boss and regain mana with Seal of Wisdom up. Pretty fast way to get some mana back in a hurry, and I've not encountered problems healing and hitting on the mob. A few fights, it is made difficult to do so (such as Mimiron) but all in all it's a nice effective mana regen tool that few pallies seem to think to use.
