Thread: current gear -> known ulduar tank gear comparison

  1. current gear -> known ulduar tank gear comparison

So I was bored at work today. I downloaded the latest version of talia's spreadsheet over at ej Tanking Spreadsheet - Elitist Jerks which i basically only use for seeing stat differences of gear, and not actual weightings. I put in all the known tank gear/recipes/drops from Ulduar thus far, and compared it to my current gear which I'm going to use heading in to ulduar.

The stats I came up with are as follows:

Left = Character sheet stats (unbuffed), / Right = Raid buffed vs lvl 83 (boss)
All diminishing returns are already taken in to account (and base miss chance), does not however count scorpid sting/insect swarm, or any "procs"

    Ulduar, max stam focus

    36806 / 46844 hp
    26536 / 31580 armor - 65.5%
    554 def
    9.59 / 8.99 miss
    25.62 / 28.19 dodge
    19.32 / 18.72 parry
    163 hit - 4.97%
    41 - 10.25% expertise
    875 / 1067 block value

Ulduar, matching sockets (using def/stam and dodge/stam)

    35551 / 45479 hp
    26536 / 31580 armor - 65.5%
    569 def
    9.9 / 9.3 miss
    27.45 / 29.61 dodge
    19.49 / 18.89 parry
    163 hit - 4.97%
    41 - 10.25% expertise
    875 / 1067 block value

    Current (stam focus, my armory)

    33496 / 43000 hp
    24877 / 29718 armor 64.11%
    542 def
    9.33 / 8.73 miss
    20.39 / 23.78 dodge
    20.95 / 20.35 parry
    131 hit - 4%
    41 - 10.25% expertise
    730 / 905 block value

    Difference (stam vs stam)

    -1.63 parry
    +4.41 dodge
    +.26 miss
    (+3.04 total avoidance)
    +1.39% armor mit
    +3850 hp
    +32 hit - 1%~

Apparently around ~150 block value, but the sheet doesn't seem to calculate it right

Gear Used: Helm of the Faceless, Bronze Pendant of the Vanir, Titanskin Cloak, Shoulderplates of the Deconstructor, Unbreakable Chestguard, Mimiron's Inferno Couplings, Handguards of Revitalization, Indestructible Plate Girdle, Saronite Plated Legguards, Spiked Deathdealers, The Leviathan's Coil, Platinum Band of the Aesir, Essence of Gossamer, Monarch Crab (trinket stats nyi), Northern Barrier, Armor Plated Combat Shotgun, Sorthalis, Hammer of the Watchers

That's just around 56% avoidance, with raid buffs scorpid it'll be 59%, with any procs (blade warding?), let's just say 60% average avoidance, giving me a 40% chance to be hit. Currently it's going to be 57%, so that's a difference of 43% chance vs 40% chance, or about 7.5% less damage taken from the avoidance, and the 1.4% armor mitigation, for 9% less damage taken in that gear, vs my current gear.

I wasn't doing this for any exact calculations, and some things are slightly off (For example, the spreadsheet doesn't have stoneskin+devotion aura stacking, and they do stack), but I did it cause I was curious.

The tier set gear should be better than many of these pieces because if it follows the same pattern as the Ulduar 10 man gear, it will be Ilvl 232 instead of 226. Not to mention many things are still undiscovered.

Awesome, looks like some nice increases, I'm curious to see the undiscovered gear!

I also hope theres a replacement for monarch crab and the tank gun, I'm sick of keeping crafted gear till later content (aka goggles to BT and khorium destroyer to BT)

So from that we might be able to say not a huge incoming damage increase over current content expected.?.?

well, it depends, in those figures its geared, gemmed, enchanted for EH, not threat/dps, but in general not a HUGE boost, but the def stance buff might make up for a bit.

Nah, it's plenty large, considering not all the gear is even known, and that's likely only about 2/3's as good as what the "best" setup will be.

    Hmm...

More of the same I guess. Looking at that I start to worry about threat and such, yet again. *grumble*

  8. It's pretty nice upgrade for next iLvL tier, with having in mind that endbosses/hardmode loot is not known yet.

Not sure why, it has a large amount of expertise and 1% more hit. There's no reason why a tank wearing that gear should lose threat on anything.

    >>> 41 - 10.25% <<<

Is most likely the line with expertise skill I sort of overread, must have been a severe lack of caffeine in my system. *blush* My bad!

So I am less worried. Still, if hit's going up with 1%, threat's going up by a bit more than that. My dps squad can, at times, allready be close on the meters. I however doubt they'll be able to close the gap completely in T8 gear though, barred from gimmick fights like thaddius or something.

  11. Cool beans, looking forward to it.

I think to a certain extent we get excited about new content and a new tier of gear and expect massive, across the board upgrades but they are always from tier to tier incremental.

That's a ton of expertise for a 'stam focused' set...damn. /rushes off to stalk Xav's armory.

EDIT: Ah, the boots. I passed em to a buddy filling in last night who was wearing blues. Kyzoc's are good enough for now and I'm eyeing the crafted ones coming up.

I intend to follow the same gearing strategy I did for 3.0 content going for EH and remaining above dodge capped Exp with enough hit that I can make up the rest with food buffs. For Progression style stuff, probably kick up EH another notch.

your hat may be nice, but I have the little white tank top that says Legendary right across my boobs. I win. (or more correctly, H wins)

Yes and no for me. I like the idea of getting a special piece of gear made and it having some staying power...not just kicking it to the curb when new content arrives but then I don't want to hold on to gear just because there is a hole in itemization. The trinkets for sure, I would like to see an upgrade but I'd sttle for some actual decent epic drops/badge vendor ones too.
