Is this really going to be an off-hand?

My main is a prot DK and I've also been gearing out my orc prot warrior doing 10 man content and the odd 25 naxx pug but I really have zero chance of getting a Last Laugh and now they are adding a new axe into the game I could actually get and its and off-hand.....wtf. I'm really hoping this is some kind of mistake and its going to be a one handed weapon.

why would they waste such a great item and make it off-hand. Just make it one-hand...

There's no way it will remain off-hand. There's almost no off-hand weapons left in the game and Blizzard has done away with making items exclusive for one class. They'll do away with it like they did with the Tanking 2-handers that were axe'd from blacksmithing.

The thing that I see is, besides the "off-hand" debogle, is a lack of stam vs equivlant starter items. For example:

Red Sword of Courage - Item - World of Warcraft
Has 20 more stam and just slightly less defense.

I am a firm believer that "it all adds up". That what makes
proper gemming and enchanting such a important task.
I've seen all to many good tanks, gemming horribly,
and making life harder on their healers, and possibly
if the habbit doesn't break impossible for them in ulduar.

Well to be fair it does have three runes engraved into the head piece. Clearly a Death Knight weapon.

It's temp name is "1H tank axe" so it's probably just a bug.

Coup makes a good point about it's stam though. It seems like Blizz doesn't want Orc or Dwarf tanks to get their expertise bonus in end-game... Or maybe they don't want shaman to have any defense...

what is last laugh then? uhh endgame expertise =p


anyway, this axe is a very nice starter .. it depends on where you get the tokens for it but it may be easier to get than RSoC, its a highly defensively geared item, good for starters imo. but its not as good as anything already out ... leading me to believe its designed for people just getting to 80

Orcs have last laugh, however... the highest iLevel mace with defense on it is a level 74 quest reward.

there is only one instance otu right now, basically its like complaining there was only a tanking sword in kara. there will be more weapons in uldar, then there will be more to choose from.

Judging whether a weapon is a "tanking" weapon on whether or not it has Defense is a bit silly -- the amount of Defense rating on a weapon is small.

What matters on a weapon is its speed (for warriors, if no one else), its damage range, then the stats. Weapons are primarily for threat.

That means a fast mace is all you really need for a tanking weapon as a dwarf, if you want the Expertise bonus. It'd be better to have a weapon actually designed for tanking, but it's not necessary.

Maexxna's Femur is pretty good, for example.

That Argent one, got same ilvl as red sword, my guess is its gonna be made one-hand, and not off-hand. overall it looks rly sexy with so much defence!
