Router Issue

We had an unexpected server outage due to a faulty router at the Texas datacenter. Thanks for bearing w/ us, it looks like it's been fixed.

Crazy stuff. Damn electronics. It shows how reliant we are on stuff that could crash at one moment or the next.

Kinda puts the perspective of what would happen if all multimedia would just..crash. o.O

Nope. Our box wasn't affected. About half of the connections were still working, but several connections just stopped for the entire datacenter. (i.e. you could ping, I could FTP, but no one could check the site)

Yeah, I chuckled at this one too.

I suspect that there weren't any server outages at that data center, but rather an interface on one of the routers bellied up (or router hard locked) and connectivity from outside the data center to certain network segments was lost.

Of course redundancy is supposed to cover this so that no single point of failure can take you down.
