there's a quest in icecrown on the ship, i forget which one, but it rewards 2 different 2handers with defense rating.
That 2 handed Axe with defense on it is alliance only sadly.
Very helpful, thanks much for all your effort.
What enchant would you guys recommend for a shield? Stamina, Block Value, Shield Spike or Defense? (Let's say you're over 540 defense so that's not an issue.)
I would like to point out that Dabiri's Enigma still is a good trinket to add if you're just short of some stupid little points of def rating. Obtained from Dimensius the All-Devouring - Quest - World of Warcraft
You could add Battlechest of the Twilight Cult from Ahn'katet. Similar to Ivory-Reinforced and Tempered Saronite
Binds when picked up
Durability 135 / 135
Requires Level 73
Equip: Increases defense rating by 60 (20.36 @ L73).
Equip: Increases your expertise rating by 27 (5.5 @ L73).
Battlechest of the Twilight Cult - Item - World of Warcraft
It apperas that only the green items that get the random enchant type of "of the Champion" provide any defense rating... Invasion Blade of the Champion is pretty decent (although a green) with the following stats: +45 Strength, +68 Stamina, +45 Defense Rating

And can typically be found on the AH for the 2 Handed tanking DKs out there... the problem of course is beyond this level there really is nothing itemized for a 2handed tanking DK as far as weapons go...

Can you suggest the best enchantment for a tanking weapon? Is there a new enchant that's better than potency or mongoose?

A lot of people (myself included) are using the Titanium Weapon Chain - it's cheap and works well. If you have the mats and someone who can do the enchant, I've seen some suggest Accuracy, but it's still pretty rare.

Both items give Defense rating and since it's a 3man quest it should be relatively easy to obtain.
The quest is called Ursoc, the Bear God

dunno if any1 did notice but the chest from Reputation with the kalu'ak is 56 defense not 60 and there is a chest in normal Anh'kahet which gives 60 defense rating and it drops of jedoga shadowseeker.
Found a neck from quest in zul'drak with 17 defense and a yellow socket so its better than the blue neck posted in this guide with a defense socket in it. the item is called Betrayer's Choker.
Also a head with 60 defense on it from icecrown quests its called "The Crusader's Resolution"

Why 689 Total Defense ?
So my question is why is the goal to be 689 defense ?
I have people telling me just to stop at 540 and stack stam or exp.
Can anyone explain this a bit further ?
Please note that Defense Skill and Defense Rating are not the same thing. You'll need significantly more Defense Rating to reach the 535/540 Defense Skill minimums.
Then perhaps i've been reading this wrong in the game the whole time ?
I look at my toon in WoW and see Defense 561
I hover over that and it says
Defense 561 (400 + 161)
Defense Rating 792 ( + 161 Defense)
So then i'm fine and I dont' have to worry about as much defense anymore ?
Keep in mind that my guild is starting to raid Archavon, Sartharion and Naxxramas.
Thanks for the info
I was wondering what I should have for trinkets. At the moment I have two stamina trinkets, my BC vengeance trinket which I have mostly for the proc and I have an engineering one that has 81 stamina. As I keep getting upgrades from naxx I lose a lot of defense rating even with gems and enchants. Should I drop one of my stamina trinekts for the defense rating trinket in Halls of Lightning?
As long as your defense is 540 or above, you're uncrittable (barring the odd boss that has some funky ability).

The badges simply buy you the same token that the bosses drop. Ergo, the "badge chest" and the "boss chest" are one in the same.
