T7 Defense, where is it?

Alright, I worked hard to get to 80 and accumulated some gear to get me up to 540 Defense. That's all well and good. Then I go to take a look at the next stages of my gear I naturally look at the T7 raiding gear, only to find that it's got less Defense on every one of the 5 items. I don't see how I could effectively utilize this set and still maintain 540 Defense. Is there something I'm missing?

Thats because your gear has only 1 gem slot atm. Drop that ring pickup a defense one, and if your doing naxx you might be able to get a better weapon with defense on it as well.

At the stage where you are picking up T7 loots, you should also be getting epics with either more defense or gem slots to make them have more defense.

Your shield could be enchanted for Defense.
Your bracers could be enchanted for Defense.
Your belt could have a better Defense gem.
Your belt could have another socket in it.
Your weapon could have Defense on it.
You are using an inferior helm enchant.

I didn't mean to say he can't use a weapon without Defense. Merely, that if he's struggling with staying uncrittable... he should be using a weapon with Defense because it's another place where he can get Defense.

I had the same issue, had to get all +defense enchants and swap out all +stamina gems to stay uncrittable, but just got lucky and won Repelling Charge so I can go resocket stuff after this raid.

Well considering the effort involved in becoming Uncrushable back in BC this Defense stuff is a cake walk. Had I just taken a bit of time I'd have found all the Defense options. I was just taken by the lower amount of Defense on the Tier gear vs the other gear I've accumulated.

I really do appreciate having these forums as a place to turn, even for simple advice, without getting flamed

Just an update to everyone that helped me with this. After changing up some of my enchants and gems I've gotten a few upgrades and have not fallen bellow 540 Defense, nor do I think I ever will.

I spent a lot of money moving gems/enchants around on my gear during the transition from blues to epics, think its natural if the char you are playing wasnt a pre-wrath geared tank.
