Death Knight Tanking Gear List

So I noticed the major gear lists around here were made for classes that could use block value.... Pshaw! So I thought I would come about and see what I could do about making a good Death Knight list for all of us that could use one. How I have done this is to include all items a Death Knight could get in Wrath, no BC raid items and the like, under normal circumstances, meaning no BoP crafting items on this list unless there's too much argument about it.

One item I see that's commonly overlooked (hell, I would have overlooked it were it not for a guildie that happened to do that quest) for starter defense gear is this:

Axe of Bloodstained Ice - Item - World of Warcraft

a 2H axe with 53 defense rating. I'm using that to be crit-immune (though I have better threat/stam weapons) until such time that I can get more defense from other items.

I don't think many are. It might happen more as gear gets better, and I think if it does it will be predominantly for dps and not tanking.

I think the greatest draw back is the parry haste gibbing that will occur with DW tanking, but if you can obtain enough parry reduction via Expertise (which a lot of DK tanking gear has) you can safely remove this fear and instead put out harder dps (as tonypablos has estimated) which in turn is harder TPS.

Look up my thread in the Theory and Article section, it'll show Kaze's work on the gear you'd be striding to achieve + how much it would give you statistics wise. It's quite doable to dual wield tank and even some of those pieces could be changed, as Kaze said, for pure damage. It'll be quite interesting to see, that's for sure. But yes, it does require minimums to work 'efficiently' but the potential is surely there.

Why is Betrayer of Humanity below other weapons like Axe of Bloodstained Ice or De-Raged Waraxe? The first one has a lot of stamina and good evasion, add that is the highest DPS and AP weapon currently in the game.

And in the same vein, while I'll give you that offensive stats do belong on tank gear, I don't know that including an item like Greatring of Collision makes a tank gear list more "complete" or helpful.

While I can appreciate the effort of putting together this document, I have to say I don't understand why items with intellect and spell power are part of a Death Knight tanking gear list.

Without specific case examples I can't defend anything, but on the by and by some items have base stats that make them better than other items even with the spell power on them. It's like the easy to get shoulders with block on them that are better than the shoulders without up to that point.

Depending on how you Gem it, if done properly, it can be better than some of the items below it. Taking those gemable items off the list would demean it in some way I think.
