Thread: WoTLK Blacksmithing Guide

  1. WoTLK Blacksmithing Guide

Wrath of the Lich King : Blacksmithing Guide! (PLEASE READ EDIT NOTES)

This guide is centered around not having to rely on pattern drops. However, this past week I managed to get the Cobalt Chestpiece pattern drop in Sholazar Basin. And it took me 2 hours of grinding because I have absolute horrid luck. But I HIGHLY recommend that you try to farm it if at all possible.

Disclaimer; I leveled Blacksmithing to 360 and I created this guide to help me collect materials while I level for a cheap ride to the cap. I am sharing this so that others may look and help me correct any flaws in the guide (such as I could have picked a cheaper alternative route.)

Second disclaimer I just registered with TankSpot and I absolutely love the community. You guys are so helpful so I figured I might try and offer what little help I can. If there is an existing WOTLK BS guide I could not find one. If there is then my bad ;(.

    Please give me feed back!

*One last thing this guide is built around not relying on random drops to skill-up. All of these patterns are taught by trainers in major cities.

(I cannot currently view when/where you can train Cobalt Rods; however, they are 4 Cobalt Bars a piece and look to be quite lucrative. So for the time being we will start at 360.)

A quick note - I do not know where/when you can train the Cobalt Rod - but it looks as if it would be highly profitable to craft. And the mats are relatively inexpensive at 4 bars per rod.
(Cobalt Rod - Spell - World of Warcraft)

    360 - 375 (Cobalt Triangle Shield - Spell - World of Warcraft)
    Cobalt Triangle Shield (4 x Cobalt Bar) x 10

    375 - 380 (Cobalt Helm - Spell - World of Warcraft)
    Cobalt Helm (5 x Cobalt Bar) x 5

    380 - 390 (Spiked Cobalt Boots - Spell - World of Warcraft)
    Spiked Cobalt Boots (7 x Cobalt Bar) x 10

    390 - 400 (Spiked Cobalt Gauntlets - Spell - World of Warcraft)
    Spiked Cobalt Gauntlets (8 x Cobalt Bar) x 10

    400 - 410 (Spiked Cobalt Bracers - Spell - World of Warcraft)
    Spiked Cobalt Bracers (8 x Cobalt Bar) x 10

    410 - 420 (Tempered Saronite Bracers - Spell - World of Warcraft)
    Tempered Saronite Bracers (13 x Saronite Bar) x 10

    420 - 435 (Titanium Rod - Spell - World of Warcraft)
    Titanium Rod (2 x Saronite Bar, 1 x Titanium Bar) x 20

*As a side note here - you can craft either (Titanium Shield Spike, or Titanium Weapon Chain)

    435 - 440 (Titanium Skeleton Key - Spell - World of Warcraft)
Titanium Skeleton Key (4 x Saronite Bar, 1 Titanium Bar)

    440 - 445 (Ornate Saronite Hauberk - Spell - World of Warcraft)
    Ornate Saronite Hauberk (14 x Saronite Bar, 1 x Eternal Earth) x 5

    445 - 450 (Tempered Titansteel Treads - Spell - World of Warcraft)
    Tempered Titansteel Treads (4 x Saronite Bar, Titansteel Bar x 3, Frozen Orb x 1) x 5

    Summary of Materials (360-450)

295 x Cobalt Bars (Cobalt Bar - Item - World of Warcraft)
280 x Saronite Bars (Saronite Bar - Item - World of Warcraft)
5 x Eternal Earth (Eternal Earth - Item - World of Warcraft)
15 x Titansteel Bar (Titansteel Bar - Item - World of Warcraft)
15 x Frozen Orb (Frozen Orb - Item - World of Warcraft)

From the links I had to work with I find that the above is the cheapest route to 450 BS. 440-450 is going to be the bastard for a lot of people including myself. Everything else does not really seem to be that bad.

If you see anything that could be changed in this guide to offer a cheaper route to the BS cap. PLEASE post in this thread and I will try to keep it up-to-date!

    Thanks,

    Mattdamon

Edit 1 : I forgot to mention what Saturday pointed out. You only need 425 BS for the Bracer and Glove Socket. While for the BOE Belt Buckle is only 415.

Edit 2 : Iowynn reminded me of something I did not mention. Some of the stuff in this guide does not vendor well but can be disenchanted so you might take a look into that :P. Or you can sell them on the AH (namely the Shield, Rod and Boots you make from 445-450.)

Edit 3 : I have not had the time to update the summary mats; but Arcan ( who speaks from experience ) suggests this route for early BS post 375

375-380 should be Cobalt Gauntlets instead of Helm, as they are orange instead of yellow at this level and cost the same to make.
380-385 should be Spiked Cobalt Boots, it becomes yellow at 385.
385-390 should be Sure-Fire Shuriken, it costs the same as Spiked Cobalt boots but is orange for these 5 points.
390-395 should be Spiked Cobalt Gauntlets, it becomes yellow at 395.
395-400 should be Spiked Cobalt Belt/Legplates, they cost the same as Spiked Cobalt Gauntlets but are orange for these 5 points.

I myself with college have not had the time to sit down and work on everything. I'm just trying to level and keep up with my guildees. Keep posting correction guys hopefully tonight I can update the actual guide for an easier time to read.

Sweet, I'll be using this for sure!

  5. Quick note is that if you're just doing this -just- for the Socket Bracers + Gloves, you only need level 425 Blacksmithing while the BOE Belt Buckler is 415.

  6. cool guide but may i ask why you didnt level your bs to 375 with felsteel gloves? seems much easier to fly around right now for fel iron

  7. First, you have to farm Auch Crypts for the drop if you do not have it, which can take a couple days if you solo it (like I did) - no group on this planet will be willing to go with you on 20+ Crypts runs for you to pick up a pattern.

Second, there will be plenty of Cobalt around - it's akin to Fel Iron. I suppose you could fly around now and get the 6 Fel Iron ore + 4 Eternium ores to make one bar... but why not just grab some Cobalt two days from now when Wrath is out?

  8. i did two crypts runs with guild mates and got the pattern
then did one slabs for the hat and got it. i dunno i just figure do it now save it for later u know

  9. I know some people who have done ten Crypts runs in full and never got the pattern.

The guide seems to be meant for people who don't really want to depend on luck, all the patterns are from trainers so they never have to leave a city :P

  10. Pretty sure cobolt rod was removed

I SOO approve of this post.
Many people have enough to live by but nothing to live for - they have the means but no meaning <<<>>> Tenraiel - Warrior||Kross - Priest||Anethea - Hunter

  13. Thank you for the feed back so far !

Chobo the guide is meant to not rely on having recipe drops. I have the worst luck imaginable. Saturday hit it on the head when he said it was built around getting recipes from trainers. So I took the liberty to make sure I would not have to rely on drops.

    Mero12513 I am blushing.

Edit: @Pinger - that is why I planned around that but the Adamantite Rods are still there.

Thanks for the post! Looking forward to maxing my Blacksmithing again ASAP.

Sure glad I dumped mining on my paladin and picked up enchanting. I can level that while DEing the stuff I make with blacksmithing on my warrior.

    Thanks for this!

I think this might be a good place to add a few things worthy of having as a blacksmith/miner.

These items are meant to save all important bag space. A engineer friend of mine said this one would be available to me as soon as I can farm up x5 cobalt bars:

Hammer Pick - Item - World of Warcraft

Then when he gets some skill up, I found this useful as I am a cook too. With this I will be able to start a cooking fire anywhere, have my mining pic, and blacksmith hammer. No stacks of tinder needed!

Gnomish Army Knife - Item - World of Warcraft

No I don't get to use the jumper cable effect but o well, 4 slots down to 1, I'm sold.

  18. 375-380 should be Cobalt Gauntlets. They're also 5 bars, but are orange instead of yellow.

So I'm insanely upset that cobalt ore/bars are going for about 160+g a stack atm. Only been able to farm 60 ore on blackrock(go go 30,000 horde).

    Sooo, that sucks.

  20. That's what they are on my server (Ghostlands) as well. I'm honestly having better luck getting cobalt ore in Utgarde Keep than in the starter regions...
