1)it's new with 3.0.2
2)I think it's a no, Satrina's Threat guides in the WOTLK Transitional Library forums located here elaborate more.
3) No SA is still inferior to Devastate threat and Dev can crit, SA cannot.
Apologies if this has been asked before, but I was taking a look at the SA skill in my spellbook today, and I noticed something I hadn't seen before. "Threat increased by attack power."
Because of that, I have a few questions. First, how long has that been on the Sunder Armor skill? Second, the Devastate tooltip says it "caus[es] the Sunder Armor effect". Does that mean that it does EVERYTHING the Sunder does, including increasing threat from AP? If the answer to the second question is no, then would using Sunder Armor instead of Devastate provide more threat, especially post-3.0 with our greatly increased AP?
I'd still be taking the Devastate talent, regardless, because the damage is nice when you're DPSing, but I wonder if Sundering instead of Devastating when tanking will provide more threat?

Totally didn't even take the crit chance into consideration. Thanks.
Plus, Devastate could proc the Sword & Board effect; Sunder doesn't.
I guess the only place left for sunder is in a mouseover macro to smack the sheeps so they don't eat the mage when they break.
1. Glyph of Sunder Armor
2. Good positioning
3. ????
4. Profit!
or for non-prot tanks to use when tanking/off-tanking, but yes this has been the trend since they implemented the sunder/devastate combination in 2.3
I'd read that the sunder armours devastate puts on a target don't get the bonus threat normally associated with a sunder any more (just the damage component.) When I'm devastating and have the above glyph, is it known if the additional target is getting sunder threat or just the debuff?
the additional target from the glyph gives the threat of sunder armor from what I remember reading in Satrina's testing, Check it out for yourself in the WOTLK Transition Library, I think it's under 3.0 Threat Values, or possible 3.0 Devastate testing.
Thank you!
Hrmm... From that post you mentioned by Satrina,
I'm not sure, but does this mean my answer is up in the air still?Glyph of Sunder Armor will apply Sunder to the secondary target whether you use Devastate or Sunder. Threat gain is as follows:
Code:
Hit Target 1 with Devastate:
Target 1: threat = TBD for build 8982
Target 2: threat = TBD for build 8982
Hit Target 1 with Sunder:
Target 1: threat = 173 + 5%AP
Target 2: threat = 173 + 5%AP
(Submitting this to Blizzard as a potential bug)
guess it's still up in the air till Sat figures it out.
Sunder may also have good threat value for Arms or Fury tanking, though I really prefer prot all around, so I really don't know if or how it would fit.
I'm still waiting to see the fury tank post his shield in one hand and 2-hander in the other, especially now that the miss chance is being so marvelously nerfed.

Yeah, I got sucked into a huge addon push because I wasn't really ready for 3.0 to come when it did, and haven't had time to revisit threat values yet.
I'm really thinking hard on the Sunder Glyph....right now, I'm going with Revenge and the Charge one for flying around nerfed content faster but before I get serious about it, I will certainly give it a long look.
your hat may be nice, but I have the little white tank top that says Legendary right across my boobs. I win. (or more correctly, H wins)
Just to clarify, the Sunder applied by the glyph makes threat. The only question is how much it actually is right now.
The one advantage with this glyph that can not really be overlooked is the fact that by the time you switch over to the target, your first slam is going to be hitting with the mob already fullly armor debuffed.
A slam against a naked mob is just that much more enjoyable not to mention the effects of your damage shield are more pronounced.
It also helps with AoE holds.
Just so many goodness effects to not highly value this Glyph. Obviously useless against a solo boss but what percentage of your time is spent on boss vs trash?
if your in a situation such as Hyjal, where you going to have large waves of trash ALL THE TIME, the sunder is great.
For 5 mans, where you going to be charging around, take the charge one!
