Helpful information for acquiring your Glyphs

Hi guys. I was thinking last night about Cider's excellent preparation post and how I could best prepare myself for today's patch (I'm more excited today than on Christmas eve). I figured I would put together a list of mats I would need for my new glyphs, which surprisingly, ended up pretty cheap. I recommend finding a friend or guild-member (or yourself, of course) who plans to level inscription and taking all of your business to them--friends first and all.

Let me explain how this works:
Listed below are the major and minor glyphs that Cider suggested (I happen to agree with him, ie: take is word for gospel). You'll see the materials required for each Glyph under the name.

Scrolls are acquired for trivial sums of money from inscription supply vendors. Pigments are acquired by having an inscriber use Milling - Spell - World of Warcraft on herbs. Any of the herbs listed below the pigment should yield the desired pigment, as far as I know. That is, you will only need to acquire 1 type of herb per glyph (whichever is cheapest ) According to THIS GUIDE, 5 herbs will net 2-4 pigments from milling, so acquiring the mats will be nearly trivial for many people (crazy economies aside). As you can see, most of then actually have the same mats.

    • Major
      • Rapid Charge
        • Light Parchment
        • Midnight Ink
          • Dusky Pigment x 2
            • Briarthorn
            • Bruiseweek
            • Swiftthistle
            • Stranglekelp
      • Revenge
        • Common Parchment
        • Jadefire Ink x 2
          • Emerald Pigment x 2
            • Khadgar’s Whisker
            • Goldthorn
            • Fadeleaf
            • Wintersbite
    • Minor
      • Battle
        • Light Parchment
          • Midnight Ink
          • Dusky Pigment x 2
            • Briarthorn
            • Bruiseweek
            • Swiftthistle
            • Stranglekelp
      • Charge
          • Light Parchment
          • Midnight Ink
          • Dusky Pigment x 2
            • Briarthorn
            • Bruiseweek
            • Swiftthistle
            • Stranglekelp
      • Bloodrage
        • Light Parchment
          • Midnight Ink
          • Dusky Pigment x 2
            • Briarthorn
            • Bruiseweek
            • Swiftthistle
            • Stranglekelp

Also worth noting is that you will probably have to "shop" for an inscriber who can make your minor glyphs. These are only available through "discovery", much like discoveries in alchemy, so it will be somewhat random what minor glyphs an particular inscriber will have.

I do wonder how much money inscribers might make tomorrow: very cheap mats and a completely fresh economy will mean that players who acquire their own mats might expect to pay very little (helping new inscribers level their profession), but having a completely new and universal market usually leads to prices starting high and falling over time. I suppose we'll all find out today.

I hope that was helpful! Good luck and merry patch-day to all!

  2. Well....we've stockpiled a crapton of mats between my wife and I so I expect it to be fairly easy. I'm doing it on a lowbie and she is doing it on her 70 mage.
your hat may be nice, but I have the little white tank top that says Legendary right across my boobs. I win. (or more correctly, H wins)

  3. thanks, very helpful!
