They are the same thing - and yes, strength does affect shield block value, but unfortunately not much to make it viable. Around 20-25 strength for every one point of shield block value, I don't know the exact number.

It's about 18 per block value, but regardless it doesn't matter. It's not enough to make it a worthwhile stat on tanking gear, agility is a much better use of item points.

They are pretty much the same thing. Technically, your SBV is part of the equation for amount blocked, not the whole value.

This is the formula for determining amount blocked:

X = [(Shield block value) + ((Strength / 20) - 1)].

Unless you have Shield Mastery, in which case, it is:

X = [(Shield block value * 1.3) + ((Strength / 20) - 1)].

hrm, that's news to me, i thought your sbv was based also on your str so it looked more like:

x = [(Shield Block Value from gear) + (Strength / 20 - 1)]*1.3

Because when I was calculating #'s in my wow thread, this was the most accurate way to figure out people's total sbv for shield slam damage or likewise how much incoming damage is blocked.

I'm pretty sure that Shield Mastery applies to the total damage being blocked for, meaning that it applies to block value gained from +BV and Strength.

The wording of the talent leads me to believe this, as it says "Increases the amount of damage absorbed by your shield by 10/20/30%"

the talent does say that. and increasing the amount block means increasing your shield block value
