What I would most likely install is called Shoutbox. $30 product that should site nicely with the RPG. There are definitely enough active users to where this might make sense.

Depending on things, and depending on interest, this'll get installed between today and next week.

I'm sure there is, but not one that I know of that uses IonCube loaders.

Has a few very neat features, the two main ones being a) refresh and loading without refreshing your page and b) ability to private message people directly from the shoutbox.

I've gone ahead and purchased this under the assumption that the server needs to be stress tested before I decide which upgrades to install.
