As of 3.3 I can do about 2-3k dps (and heal) in a heroic, as a disc priest. I'm quite happy that my smite is going to heal now.
But I will admit I am just as concerned about mana as you are..

I don't find it surprising that you lose aggro in AoE fights, it's not really uncommon. For that you just need to have your taunt/dg ready. You could try frost with a howling blast glyph for AoE,...
