In thinking of Perenolde's (near-) uniqueness, I do wonder though if many of the SGA raids are populated by 75% one guild or another; 8 of the 10-people or 19 of the 25-people? I doubt any of the SGA raids boast that. When those the balance raids exist, they often pull out from the SGA runs, or, most likely, they were formed OUTSIDE of the SGA, but just happen to include other SGA members (i.e. the "SuperPuG" forums; another bird altogether).

Rhaina used the word first, and so I thought of my little friends in Sholazar, "Ooooh! Shiny!" People like things like that. Guild mergers are possible among friends who are in such alliances because they want those shinies. Likewise, I foresee losing a small raid-centric number from SC's ranks, and I wish them well.  We're not going to be able to offer everything to everyone.  Never have, never will.

Will it be the death of the SGA (or the incarnations on Feathermoon and the handful of other servers)? Only time is going to tell. Still, for a fair number the lolraiders, I imagine it will matter as much as the vanity mirror matters to every woman buying a car.

I poked around a bit more and I think I get what's worrysome... it's not about the benefits of guild leveling only being available to guild-only/mostly raids -- it's that if a raid/BG/Arena isn't 75% your-guild, it doesn't do anything to help your guild level.

I think I can understand where they were coming from with that (wanting ~guild~ efforts to count towards a guild's xp) but it also seems at complete odds with things like x-realm LFG. Those're pushing things in completely opposite directions.

I could understand if there were some special benefit or increased XP gain for all/mostly guild groups... but would hope that when that's not the case, your efforts would still count for SOMEthing.

Anyone know if there's a thread in partic. about that on the blizz forums anywhere?

Aspenique, that's where I think the confusion is. My understanding was that it's not that you need 75% of any activity to be filled by your guild mates for it to count towards guild XP. From what I saw, that 75% threshold is only applicable to the guild Achievements.

Link Here

Note here that the Guild Achievements are in a different section than the Guild Leveling and Talents. Also that things like leveling your character, increasing your reputations, and other completely solo activities provide guild XP. It also mentions boss kills, while talking in that individual type of mindset, so it seems to me that that would indicate that you can earn guild XP even in a pickup.

It's also my understanding that it's only your top X# of players will be earning guild XP too. I can't remember what number they said though. Which makes sense... you don't want to encourage zerg guilds or give such guilds an extremely unfair advantage.

The number I've seen on that is top 20 earners per day, Evol. Which seems like a good number.

It might also lead to folks staggering what they do so that their effort might not be wasted on a day when 30 people do all sorts of stuff, when they could have waited. For instance, if a non-raider is doing a whole bunch of stuff, they might want to do it on a non-raid night, instead of a raid night where 25 people are going to be getting credit for boss kills.

I don't really see anything to be alarmed about in how the "points" are accumulated to level. There appear to be a lot of ways to get points, and they've designed it not to be biased towards large guilds very much.

I just wish they would explain how the benefits work. Take the one so many other people seem to think is a big deal, mass rezz. Say my guild takes that talent. When can I use it in a raid?

-- when the raid is 75% people from my guild?

-- when the raid is 75% people from guild(s) that took that point?

-- when the raid leader is from a guild that took that point?

-- under some other condition?

If the raid has to be 75% from the same guild, then the issues I am concerned about are real. If all it takes it 75% of people from guilds that have it, or just the raid leader, or something else that doesn't bias raid groups towards being uniformly tagged, then I don't see one single thing to worry about here.

The difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.

And while I think there's a bit of "OK...we've got like a YEAR to wait!" there's also the memory in many of our minds of how badly some guilds got burned on the Vanilla-->TBC crossover.  A lot of guilds lost a lot of people to the radical changes it brought to guilds due to the raiding roster change ups.

I think it's a healthy idea for all of us to talk to our officers though now so regardless of what comes, we have some sort of plan in place.  I'm a big beliver in contingency plans.   :)

...you're more than welcome to go back to your country if you don't like our education system?

Back when I taught at the U of Oregon, I had a student who plagiarized a paper by copying an encyclopedia entry. When he appeared before the conduct committee, his whole defense was "It's not fair that she figured out where I copied it from. If she weren't so sneaky, I wouldn't be in trouble now."

He's right up there with the Syrian student who skipped every single class without dropping the course, and when I flunked him, told the department head, "In my country, a woman who gave a man an 'F' would be stoned to death. I do not accept her right to judge me."

My mother's advice has always been "Always anticipate what you tell people being able to be printed on the front page of the newspaper."

It's like the people I see at our university's conduct committee who can't fathom how their facebook and myspace information winds up in front of us....

I just don't understand how someone who posts about a WoW character on a Live Journal page thinks she was keeping a SECRET, and blames OTHER people for telling that "secret".

My mother told me once when I was complaining that some friend of mine told one of my secrets "She wasn't the first person to tell it." My mother is a wise woman.

Ok, I'm starting to associate "Well, things weren't going so well in my guild, but I thought I'd put some stuff in the guild bank to help out' with "our marriage was terrible, we didn't agree on anything, so I got pregnant cause I thought it would help us come together."

The armory says I've only died 10 times.

Which just proves the armory lies. I'm a Tauren. I started playing in Thunder Bluff.

I've died more than 10 times just getting from Elder Rise to Spirit Rise.

In a related topic, there's no graceful way to fall off of Thunder Bluff.

More awesome super duper news!

*My* ICC project (not Icecrown Citadel but the Intercounty Connector) got a big stormwater approval today that lets the contractor get to work on the last 1/3 of the project. Everyone's really happy. :)
