it's just a huge red flag to me when someone comes in bashing the guild they were just in.
I've only let one person into a guild who did this, and the bashing was minor. It amounted to, "I server-transferred to join X guild for progression, and when I got here, I found out that they have a reputation as a ninja guild. From what I could see, it was true, and I don't want any part of that. I'm trying to rectify my mistake by leaving X guild and apping to Relevance".

Since X guild DID have a rep for neing a ninja guild, and since the "bashing" was fairly low key, we accepted him, and he was a great member for all the rest of BC.

The difference between theory and practice is that in theory there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.

We had one guy apply to the Anvil bad-mouthing a raid that just broken up right towards the end of BC. Unfortunately for him, one of the leaders of that raid had joined us.

But he was also not nearly so polite about it. It's one thing to come and say you got a wrong impression. It's quite another to say that the guild leader is a selfish asshole that hates people.

And I have seen that.

Hehe.

I've seen that. Our guild had a huge chunk of raiders join us from a guild called Ursa, mostly because they followed a fairly charismatic healer. About a year later, we had a guild split, and a tank from Ursa joined the split guild, badmouthing our parent guild along the way.

The leadership of the split guild badly needed this tank, since their only OT had gone awol.... so they had to listen to him. Bear in mind that the split guild members didn't mind bashing the parent guild themselves... but when someone from the outside did it.. wooooooh.

It went kind of like this:

Healer: Hey, Tank1, at least you're not such a noob as Tankinparentguild.

*raid giggles*

Newguy: Yeah, and at least he's not an evil conniving bastard.

*stone-cold silence*

The funniest part was that he was convinced that the parent guild was the devil, but hadn't checked up enough on the split guild to see where they were all from. He thought it was a brandnew guild.

He confessed all to me. I didn't mention that I was the officer and later GM who handled the transfer of virtually every remaining Ursa member over to our guild.

I believe he was finally tossed out of the split guild after he picked on the nicest, kindest rogue I've ever met.. and was promptly savaged by the rest of the raid group, who made it very clear that they'd raid without an OT, but not with that guy, no, not anymore.

That rogue went on to become another GM's assistant and has done very well.

I just don't understand how someone who posts about a WoW character on a Live Journal page thinks she was keeping a SECRET, and blames OTHER people for telling that "secret".

My mother told me once when I was complaining that some friend of mine told one of my secrets "She wasn't the first person to tell it." My mother is a wise woman.

Ok, I'm starting to associate "Well, things weren't going so well in my guild, but I thought I'd put some stuff in the guild bank to help out' with "our marriage was terrible, we didn't agree on anything, so I got pregnant cause I thought it would help us come together."

That means you've only died 10 times... since the patch for version 2.0.1 came out

The armory says I've only died 10 times.

Which just proves the armory lies. I'm a Tauren. I started playing in Thunder Bluff.

I've died more than 10 times just getting from Elder Rise to Spirit Rise.

In a related topic, there's no graceful way to fall off of Thunder Bluff.

More awesome super duper news!

*My* ICC project (not Icecrown Citadel but the Intercounty Connector) got a big stormwater approval today that lets the contractor get to work on the last 1/3 of the project. Everyone's really happy. :)

In other news, hopefully my new chair gets delivered today! My old one was breaking, so I've been playing in a kitchen chair, then switched to a folding chair.

I agree. It's a very significant problem to let your anxieties negatively affect those, and it's really just not acceptable to expect people who are unaware of your problem to play into them.

Most people are willing to be soothing to people having trouble, because they assume that the trouble is temporary, and not a more deep-seated disorder. When that's the issue, people need to be allowed to choose whether to continue associating with that person or not, of their own free will.

Yep, and people don't really have the right to inflict that on social groups without some kind of mediation. They guy doesn't seem to grasp that he's asking for a kind of support that is unreasonable, largely because it will never be *enough*.

Well, apparently that person has some pretty bad personality disorder. Picking a bad metric and then feeling like they *must* win at it. Like having the highest post count on a forum? Having no deaths in PvP? There's some serious issues there.
