Hehe, no. This particular judge is in his early 50s (at most, and he could pass for mid-40s), refuses to wear the judicial robes or a suit, conducts court in a button-down shirt and chinos... and I believe he removes the tie when he goes to ride his Harley on his lunch break.
bullet Singlestrike on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 16:55:06
Probably had an urgent meeting at a masonic temple he had to get to.
bullet Gertrudis on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 13:40:14
This judge was pretty annoyed today. We had three 20 minute lectures interspersed by two recesses, all on the subject of how one couldn't bootstrap corpus delicti.
bullet Charise on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 13:34:38
*chuckle*

Judges being annoyed at prosecutors is an everyday occurrence.
bullet Riprap on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 13:03:36
Not like I trust most 'confessions' anyway. :)

I'd be an awesome judge.

Oh, Gert, I read a story today about some folks who had the stupid case against them decided in a directed verdict in favor of the defendant pretty much the instant the prosecutor rested. I found it interesting to think of a judge all annoyed at prosecutors. :)

People have this distressing tendency to confess to things that didn't actually happen. And people who 'summarize' such conversatons have huge problems with accurate recall, even when they're trying hard to summarize the conversation accurately, and even when they know they're on tape.
bullet Gertrudis on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 13:00:12
*any crime
bullet Gertrudis on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 12:56:00
Not without further competent evidence that a crime has been committed.
bullet Hammerstone on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 12:51:43
If someone confesses to a crime you can't convict them on it?
bullet Gertrudis on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 12:25:54
Oh,and I just won a trial because the State forgot to subpoena a key witness. (And also forgot about the problem that you need more than a bare confession to convict someone...)
bullet Gertrudis on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 12:24:37
Not a whole bunch, H, how you been?
bullet Horacio on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 11:49:06
/sniff sniff....

Wuts goin on in here guys?
bullet Hammerstone on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 10:09:30
I just saw it, it was funny.
bullet Riprap on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 08:05:13
That might be it, Evol, but I can't see it. Stupid internet filtering. That'll be the best thing about leaving this office in a month or so.
bullet Evol on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 07:52:51
You mean this one? Link Here
bullet Riprap on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 07:04:38
You guys ever see that video of the Count singing his counting song, but with 'count' bleeped out the whole song?

"I like *bleep*ing and *bleep*ing..."

It really takes on a different tone.
bullet Singlestrike on Tuesday 17 November 2009 - 04:09:32
/bite

"You are now a vampire"

/openseyes

"One..ONE Blood Elf...ahhaahaa...two...TWO Blood Elfs hahaha..three..."
bullet Evol on Monday 16 November 2009 - 19:35:37
Sounds Monty Python-ish.

"It's just a scratch you silly bint."
bullet Riprap on Monday 16 November 2009 - 19:25:20
That's better than the pre-Twilight Vampire guilds on RP servers.

"I just bit you, you're a vampire now." "What?" "You're a vampire now." "No I'm not." "Yes you are, you can't resist it." "What? Beat it, you god-moding freak."
bullet Singlestrike on Monday 16 November 2009 - 18:04:35
Cool, looks like the Battlenet merge reset my forum bans. I don't know why any one would ban me....Im such a nice guy.
bullet Itanya_Blade on Monday 16 November 2009 - 16:47:26
Well at least I know that's not any of my guilds.

bullet Hammerstone on Monday 16 November 2009 - 16:37:57
That sounds like my perfect definition of a WoW nightmare Singlestrike
bullet Singlestrike on Monday 16 November 2009 - 15:56:41
Damn..shot down for the second time today. The first time, I rolled an alt on an RP server and asked to join a Twilight themed guild....
bullet Riprap on Monday 16 November 2009 - 15:50:11
Uhh, I'd love to, but, uh, I gotta, er, uh, wash my beard that night. Sorry...
bullet Singlestrike on Monday 16 November 2009 - 14:55:40
Just stopped by to recruit Riprap for my arena team. Heard the guy loves PvP alot.
bullet Riprap on Monday 16 November 2009 - 13:22:13
A WoW mention on Slate today. There's an article about the tensions between winning at all costs and the hazards of friendly fire, aka screwing your friends for personal individual goals.

So how is everyone this week? Personally, I'm boggling at the fact that next week is Thanksgiving.
bullet Hammerstone on Monday 16 November 2009 - 07:53:59
I have Dairyas. I had to delete all my cookies to work again. I think the issue started on Nov 11th when Blizzard formalized the battle.net account mergers.
bullet Dairyas on Saturday 14 November 2009 - 00:44:59
Has anyone else had any issues posting on the forums over the last few days? Whenever I log in, it just goes to a screen that says "Server Error". My game account is active...just can't log in on the forums.
bullet Rhaina on Friday 13 November 2009 - 19:33:37
Well, no. Now if you DID level your warrior and wanted to tank it for me, I'd be HAPPY to bring you along. But no pressure or anything . . .

:-P

Maybe you're using 'felt sorry' in a different way than I'm understanding it, but I sure don't feel sorry for anyone who holds that kind of attitude. I'm not a big fan of anyone who assumes that another human being is a lesser creature.

I actually felt kind of sorry for the kid. He really could not wrap his head around having a woman in a position of authority over him so he flunked the three classes he had which were taught by women.

Really, he was way too rigid to be studying abroad, and it seemed like no one had warned him. Not that I liked his theory about stoning me to death, but he really was bewildered.

...you're more than welcome to go back to your country if you don't like our education system?

Back when I taught at the U of Oregon, I had a student who plagiarized a paper by copying an encyclopedia entry. When he appeared before the conduct committee, his whole defense was "It's not fair that she figured out where I copied it from. If she weren't so sneaky, I wouldn't be in trouble now."

He's right up there with the Syrian student who skipped every single class without dropping the course, and when I flunked him, told the department head, "In my country, a woman who gave a man an 'F' would be stoned to death. I do not accept her right to judge me."

My mother's advice has always been "Always anticipate what you tell people being able to be printed on the front page of the newspaper."

It's like the people I see at our university's conduct committee who can't fathom how their facebook and myspace information winds up in front of us....

I just don't understand how someone who posts about a WoW character on a Live Journal page thinks she was keeping a SECRET, and blames OTHER people for telling that "secret".

My mother told me once when I was complaining that some friend of mine told one of my secrets "She wasn't the first person to tell it." My mother is a wise woman.

Ok, I'm starting to associate "Well, things weren't going so well in my guild, but I thought I'd put some stuff in the guild bank to help out' with "our marriage was terrible, we didn't agree on anything, so I got pregnant cause I thought it would help us come together."

That means you've only died 10 times... since the patch for version 2.0.1 came out

The armory says I've only died 10 times.

Which just proves the armory lies. I'm a Tauren. I started playing in Thunder Bluff.

I've died more than 10 times just getting from Elder Rise to Spirit Rise.

In a related topic, there's no graceful way to fall off of Thunder Bluff.

More awesome super duper news!

*My* ICC project (not Icecrown Citadel but the Intercounty Connector) got a big stormwater approval today that lets the contractor get to work on the last 1/3 of the project. Everyone's really happy. :)
