| | | WotLK: Shields are Sexy
So... I hurt my back last night and wound up lying down without being able to sleep. Naturally, what I do when I'm in bed is think about Shield Slam, and I realized I hadn't actually done the most important thing in this new expansion: figure out just how much it had been buffed! Shield Block
First, let's look at our new Shield Block. This is a 200% Shield Block Value buff that lasts 10 seconds and can be used every 40 seconds. Blizzard has described this as a "mini Shield Wall," and while we may pass it off given how little our Shield Block has mitigated in the past, take a look: Shield Slam
This, of course, is the meat of it. Shield Slam has received an enormous number of buffs in Wrath: Improved Shield Bash (10% Damage), Improved Defensive Stance (10% Damage, not currently working in Beta), Critical Block (15% Critical Strike), Sword and Board (15% on Shield Slam or Devastate to receive a free Shield Slam with the cooldown refreshed). The Strength-to-Shield Block Value conversion is 10 times better than it was in the past (in the following screenshot I chose to use [item]Bulwark of the Ancient Kings[/item] for the Strength buff).
Math is boring. Screenshots aren't.
The bullet-point before people go too crazy: - This is level 70 without using a single piece of Northrend gear. It also does not have the now-5% SBV Meta gem or the T6 bonus.
- This is self-buffed and does not use PVP buffs or berserking debuffs. I did butter up... err, Sunder up... the boar before I did my dirty work.
- This is staged. It's on a relatively low Armor mob and I'm using Deathwish, an ability that will never be in a serious Prot build (even a Prot PVP build, thanks to Shockwave!).
- Yes, I am using a male blood elf haircut, and yes, it is awful.

I'm sensing that we'll see a vast decrease in the amount of +SBV we get in exchange for the drastic increase to Str we've seen on tanking gears so far... I'll be loathe to part with many of the pieces I've worked so hard for, but upgrades are inevitable... I'm just waiting to see how much a lvl 80 is carrying around before I get excited.

Yeah, that's a pretty awful haircut I gotta say. | I had to go back and make sure it wasn't Lore that started this thread based upon the hair.

Has the SBR conversion factor been changed, or SBR capped? Otherwise surely SBR would be such a desirable mitigation stat that a tank should aim to achieve passive blocking through gear.

dang cider, over 9000! lolz
It would be nice if they changed current tank gear that had +sbv on it to be twice as much str, giving us the ap and same sbv.
Hey..did they just give us a "prot pvp" gear set by changing the str->sbv ratio? I mean, my s3 chest i use for dps has 57 strength on it along with the other good stats (hit, crit, arp). It's usable for prot pvp by also giving 28 sbv..lol.

Oh, as another thought, when i first saw the changes to shield block ability, i was thinking it was a 200% sbv buff till you made your next block. But its a 200% sbv buff for the entire 10 seconds? Man i actually might have to get imp shield block then.

Out of curiousity, sundering the boar in live and using death wish, how much does that SS hit for ?
Also, yes, the hair is awful.

Sigh, I need a beta on my alliance account. I want to know how much Narshe can hit with the meta and the 6piece bonus.
Apart, I want a new haircut aswell *^^*
