| | | "Hacked" again So http://evilempireguild.org got "hacked" again. By hacked, I mean some mouth breather with a script managed to press a few buttons and have someone else's work upload a zomg I hax joo message in place of the standard index.html of the site.
This sort of stuff makes me mad. Not because I got hacked, but because the people who do this stuff are morons. Who deletes index.html and replaces it with index.htm? I expect the average person to not necessarily understand the difference in convention between Apache on Linux and IIS on Windows. Someone who is in theory trying to show the world how technically awesome they are? Please, stop breathing. You're wasting air that other people need to do useful things. These scripts should automatically inject "I am a loser who couldn't do this without using someone else's brainpower" into whatever message they put up. |

| | | My girlfriend has had her website "hacked" in this way several times in the last year, and each time its happened she has got it back up and running within 5 minutes.
However, I agree that these people should die in a fire

| | | I had this happen on our old guild site as well. Just a filename change and a "Turkish" message. When I saw the message on your site I chuckled because I already knew how stupid these people are. |

| | | Im lucky with my guild site(which i still maintain though i left with my main) that automatic backup's are taken by our host every 24 hours, so If anythng really bad is to happen I can get it back without too much hassle. I have also found by not running on PhPbb i have Zero spambots signing up on it as well.

| | For phpBB: Insert this at line 145 of includes/usercp_register.php if ($icq || $aim || $msn || $yim || $website || $occupation || $interests) {
die("Die spambot, die.");
exit;
} Spambots always fill in crap like that to try and look legit, while it's irrelevant for 99% of actual players registering for a guild board (they can still put Location and Signature). Tell users that if they want to include that information, to edit their profile after activation.
99.5% spambot reduction, easy. |

Lawl I looked up l33t hacks on hacks.com and then borked your site. I R L33t
Anyone else get reminded of that one CS thing where the kid tries to download hacks and gets his computer melted? Yeh, i'm sure most of these scriptkiddies will have the same fate soon enough.

| | | Some idiot hacked my old guilds site...was really sad actually because things weren't going well, people had lost motivation and the site hacking was the last straw and thus the guild ended in 2 days time...

99.5% spambot reduction, easy. | That looks about right.
What we did is make new users members of "members", and when guildies regiser we put them in the group "guild memebers". Members are allowed to read only, guild members can post. So the spam bots are just stuck reading my rants about the relative merits of SBV, AGI and EXP - which I'm sure is relatively thrilling to IndianButtMagic2078. |
