I'll get straight into it: I want to see if a prot pally can solo Geddon in MC.

The difficulties in that fight:
1. Elemental fire hits which are fully blockable.
Unhittable negates these.
2. Living Bomb, a few k of fire damage and a fall. A good ~6k damage every time.
This is unavoidable and can only really be fixed with healing
3. Inferno, PBAoE for <1k per tick, quite often.
It's possible to stay out for most of the ticks, but some damage...

Yesterday, after waiting weeks for any kind of loot, I got Heritage and Last Laugh, pushing me over 102.4%. I know Shadevarr and Ciderhelm, and I assume others, have reached this already, but I'd now like to officially withdraw my multiple predictions that unhittability would be unreachable before content patches.

As has been said many times before, this set is impractical for most raid tanking. I use it on certain bosses, offtanking on others, and for invulnerability in a hell...

Passive uncrushability (or whatever it's called now) has always been a pursuit of mine. At 70 I hit it fairly late, around July '08 I think. When I first hit 80 I could be uncrushable against mobs up to level ~45, and at the end of this WoW week that level has risen to 69, with half a dozen best-in-slots. I haven't looked closely at the sums available, but I don't believe I'll be able to get that as high as 83 with existing gear. We still aren't seeing the numbers we saw at 70: Best-in-slots...

I like to solo difficult stuff using a full hit table and high BV. Some fights shine here, and some (namely any with substantial magic damage) don't. In particular, I used to kill Arlokk every 3 days (until the loot dried up and the path to exalted seemed too long to bother), and Garr every week (which I'll continue to do until I get my bindings, and perhaps the recipes I don't have yet).

Oh yeah, and back in the old days (pre-3.0) I could take on the Infectious Skitterers in Naxx...

Posted in Tanking, Gear
I first used the term 'magic effective health' (henceforth EH in this entry) in this post on my guild forum. If that particular phrase hasn't been uttered elsewhere, I'm sure the concept has. Anyway, I won't get into the details of that.

I've been thinking a lot about resistance gearing lately. I have a lot of resistance gear, am capped for Nature, Arcane and Fire, and building up Shadow and Frost, and have dedicated sets for elementals, melee casters, pure casters like imps, and...
