Looking to gear for WotLK

So, the more and more i read about the beta, the more i hear about how its going to be a threat race and one of the best ways to gear yourself tanking is to get pvp gear because its full of Str. Well my question is what pieces would be best to get, and at what point would they be better. I am currently MT for my guild and were just doing the 10 mans, but i have no issue farming out a full S2 set if thats whats needed. Currently i am in full badge gear with 15 stam gems. I sit at 43 expertise and 129 hit with 252 armor reduce in threat set.

Should i be fine till mid 70's or should i farm out pvp gear and if so what pieces would you get first?

If you solo until the mid-70's, you can get a smithed "Tempered Saronite" set very easily, which would do the job. A PVP set probably would work, but I'm not convinced it's worth the effort unless you plan on PVPing a lot anyway.

Going to level with a holy pally, and expect to be instance running daily with guildies. From doing some more look at my gear i think i have hobbled together a basic set from random tokens i had lying around. 14.1k hp (down from 17.2 in other tank gear) 487 str up from 159 in reg tank gear. lose a lot of avoidance, and i mean upwards of 25% so i am not sure if the extra threat would be worth it

I don't think it's worth the effort to gear specifically for wotlk. Your regular dps set will do pretty well used as tanking gear all the str you should have in it for prot dps will do well. The dungeons aren't set for people in purple gear they are designed for people in greens leveling without ever having raided at 70 so the math behind the fights really isn't that tough.

I'm going to come up with a mix and match of dps and prot gear for tanking the low-level instances - basically every piece has to have hit, expertise, strength or block value on it - a couple will be pvp pieces from my dps set, meaning I can drop some defense and stay crit immune. Aiming for just crit immune and decent threat stats and working on the pinciple that with that I'll have enough stam and avoidance to be OK, as as Bonerot says they will designed so that brand new 70s can tank them OK.
