New Mother Bear talent?

From the new patch notes:

*New Talent* Mother Bear[PH][NYI] (Tier 8 ): Increases the bonus attack power for Bear Form and Dire Bear Form by an additional 20/40/60/80/100%, and for each friendly player in your party, damage you take is reduced while in Bear Form and Dire Bear Form by 1/2/3/4/5%.
Am I reading this wrong, or does it really mean that a bear in a full party will have a straight up 20% damage reduction on top of armor?

That can't be right, can it?

Last time i checked it was a 3 pointer.

It also can be right since i have yet to see any increased armor item.

This seems like a lean to remove "feral tank gear" meaning a druid could shift into Bear Form in cat gear and tank something.... that would be really AWESOME!

Could you imaging Vash? -- Start out in cat form on her, shift to bear with no penalty (and prolly switch weapons) to tank naga in p2, then back cat form to tear her up in P3... mmm fun time.

That would be fun except it won't be what happens since they would also have to make warriors able to tank perfectly well in full DPS gear. Otherwise the distinction between the classes would be too big for WotLK.

I don't think so Rak, they are trying to make less wasted gear. Right now their are only two specs who have nothing to share: Holy Pallies and Feral Druids, both which need custom tailored and unique to that spec, it's not really feasible to change holy pally itemization, but allowing bears to tank in cat/rogue gear means no dedicated feral-tank gear to get wasted when there is no feral around.

If this addresses the gear homogenization goal for druids, then perhaps the frontloaded scaling means druids will temporarily be the best choice for MT between 3.0 and level 75 or so.

A temporary situation like that isn't the end of the world, but I imagine the forums would be a little wilder than usual.

Edit: Just remembered only three points - that's not that big a deal then, particularly if the druid herself isn't counted.

Ah, yes. Looks like you all were right. The version MMO Champion posted on their front page was wildly different from the version in the actual talent tree. Doh.
