My First Guild WWS

Last night I ran Kara with a few people from my guild and several pugs. It was my first time logging a WWS report, and I'm a bit overwhelmed at the amount of information available there.

Some things are pretty obvious: the rouge and mage at the bottom of the charts sucked. Their dps was rather laughable, they died on several fights, and didn't do very important things like kill Illhoof's Demon chains.

The more important thing though is this: Myself, the paladin (tank), and the priest (healer) in the raid are all friends and I would say fairly competent players, but I know we could improve. What I don't know is where to look to find the things that need work the most.

Can anyone help me out a little in learning how to use this? Thanks in advance everyone.

Help with WWS

You can look at it as a quick glance for DPS on some boss fights (make sure you pick a fight that makes sense to analyze). For example: Attumen is pretty much a tank-n-spank intro boss, so you can use the DPS values from that encounter as an early benchmark. 500 DPS is the entry-level target for Karazhan; outputting less is a sign that there are problems.

One good use for WWS is to investigate skill rotations, by seeing which abilities that each player used. It can help identify problem areas, such as Priests using Flash Heal too much, Rogues not using SnD/Rupture, Hunters not using Steady Shot, etc.

Another is to break down the fight stats, such as damage ranges, miss rate, and crit rate. This can help you identify if a player is just showing up with too little of the necessary gear. For example: abysmal hit rating is very common for those DPSers new to raiding.

Take Darkmasia (please! /rimshot). I've selected the Maiden fight because it's a good fight to analyze melee DPS. Looking at his abilities, he used Evis instead of Rupture, only used Evis 4 times, and never used SnD. All these are things that point to a Rogue who doesn't know how to max their damage.

If you expand his data (click the + on the right side), you'll see that he never missed a Hemo; that's a good indicator he has enough +hit for special attacks. His white attacks, however, missed 22% of the time; as a Rogue, he'd get a lot of damage increase with more +hit.
