Should I get some fire protection gear to tank?

I just recently started playing WoW again. Before I quit over a year ago I ran Blackrock Depths with some friends a couple of times, but only picked up one or two pieces of fire protection gear which I've since vendored because I never used them. Now I'm into BC and about to start going into Ramparts with pugs. I'm DPS Arms/Fury spec but have a seperate set of tanking gear comprised of the best +def/armor/stam stuff I've been able to find.

My question: since I'll be encountering a lot of fire-flinging bosses, do I NEED to get myself some gear with fire protection? I'm currently saving for an epic mount and trying not to spend money on anything, but will it even be possible to tank bosses using fire special attacks with out it? If the answer is "Yes, definitely," then how much fire protection should I shoot for and what pieces in particular that are available at the AH (or elsewhere)?

I am still getting back into this game and was never really all that savvy to begin with, so please bear with me. Any additional advice would be welcome.

I cannot think of anything shy of T6 where fire resistance armor is needed...maybe Dragonhawk in ZA....spend your gold on the mount.

There aren't a lot of fights that you'll need resistances for as you're leveling up from 60 to 70. Fire may be useful on one boss in Ramparts, but it's hardly necessary; don't sweat your fire resist gear.

The only gear that I'd say you should hold on to would be anything with Shadow Protection, for the first boss in Mana Tombs and the first boss in Arcatraz at 70.

You won't need Nature or Frost until you're raiding T5 content (Hydross), and you won't need to even consider Fire until T5 raiding, but likely T6 (Illidan).

In short: yes, you can tank fire-slinging bosses without fire resist just fine.

I don't recall having used any resistance gear on all my 3 tanks (2 pala and 1 war) while leveling. Thus , don't bother.

Save the fire gear for after you've purchased all the badge items and epic gems. It's nice to have in your bags for a couple of pre-BT things, but not necessary. I do use a little on Thorngrin in heroic Botanica, but you can strafe side to side to get out of the fire on what's his name in heroic Ramparts.

It's certainly not a pre-req to raiding like it was back when you probably quit playing (i.e. Pre-MC/BWL).
