Opinions on [Ancient Aqir Artifact]

Hi all,

I downed Zuljin for the first time last night and picked up [item]Ancient Aqir Artifact[/item]. Here is a wowhead link to item and comments --> Ancient Aqir Artifact - Item - World of Warcraft

What are the opinions on the value of this item coming from more experienced warriors who have tanked SSC/TK/Hyjal/BT?

Here are 2 snippets coming from comments on wowhead:
-------
Armor and Block Value have a -very- nice synergy. The higher your armor, the less you get hit for, and thus the bigger effect block value has as it takes a higher percentage of total damage off each hit. Wearing the Aqir+Autoblocker gives you essentially a mini shieldwall every 2 minutes that is far more effective than popping both individually at different times or just using one. Absolutely perfect for popping during things like Halazzi's frenzy if no hunter, Malchezaar's Phase 2, that kind of regular boost to tank damage that can be tricky but doesnt warrant a full Shield Wall pop. Any kind of situation where you're taking constant damage, don't necessarily expect to dodge everything, but just want to reduce a hefty amount of physical damage to give healers a bit of a break.
-------
use both imo? Ironshield + this trink would give 5000armor on demand.

I have this trinket and I honestly I have only used it maybe once or twice. That was on tidewalker before I got the HMgT trinket. Now I use the pocketwatch and the HMgT trinket.

If you have the pocketwatch most people will agree its better then the ZJ trinket. They offer about the same avoidance so the difference is the use. The dodge rating can save your life in all those examples you listed above.

In the end plain and simple pocketwatch over the artifact 99% of the time. Use the trinket as a trophy to show you downed Zul'Jin

Send a message via AIM to Hollowskin
The same argument could be made for Moroes trinket+autoblocker. Instead, though, the armor is mitigating a minute amount of damage while the dodge is avoiding a massive amount more damage.

I don't feel 20 secs of extra armor would help that much, [item]Ironshield Potion[/item] are totally different as you can have it up all the time. The parry may help with some extra avoidance and a tiny bit more TPS.

[item]Commendation of Kael'thas[/item] and [item]Moroes' Lucky Pocket Watch[/item] trinkets are best combo for EH/avoidance that I have by far.

[item]Commendation of Kael'thas[/item] and [item]Shard of Contempt[/item] trinkets for EH/Avoidance/Mitigation/Threat

[item]Shard of Contempt[/item] and [item]Gnomeregan Auto-Blocker 600[/item] trinkets for Threat

I'm going to be testing it out over the next week or so and see how effective it is.

The problem with the artifact is that it isn't an oh shit trinket. If you pop it with 2000 health left then you are gaining something like 400 effective health. Completely useless compared to gaining the 15% dodge from Moroes or 2000 health from the Shadowmoon Insignia.

I use it in my avoidance set. Why? Because I use my avoidance set in very specific encounters, most other fights I wear threat or boss mitigation set. When I want avoidance, I want every bit of it, like soaking cleaves, or keeping a mob busy. That's where the 20sec use effect shines, because it's 20sec where my armor can hit 23000 pre-Inspiration. I alternate between Aquir and the Pocketwatch on Morogrim, when I want to reduce healer threat to a minimum right after Earthquakes.

416 armour over time if cooldown is used every time, which in reality is probably the most effective way to use it. As opposed to morose's which is reactive.

I would like to pick this up however for brutallus. Only fight I can think of where I would use it. He does a stomp that decreases armour by 50% for 20 seconds. But the -50% is only applied to base armour from what I hear, making this trinket VERY effective. 2500 armour when you are down around 9-10k is crazy.

I myself have passed on it before because there really was very little use for before but I'll be getting it if it drops again.

Armor is linear. 2500 armor at 1k yields the same effect on your EH as 2500 armor at 30k.
