New to 70 unsure warrior with questions

Hi,

Let me first off say great site. I found it from a link on a different class forum and have learned alot.

Now a lil background.

This is my alt toon Raptor. He is a fury/arms spec'ed warrior with a talent build of 17/44/0.
The World of Warcraft Armory

I went with this spec, due to the max amount of dps I could deliver for lvling up. Which was done alot of by myself.

So... now that I have reached 70, and am supposed to be the second tank for the guild, I am finding myself with a bit of a problem deciding on what to do.

The guild is not progressing into instances and is still "building" a kara team. We do not raid, we mostly lvl a toon to 70 and then do another toon..*boring*...but I have been with them since the begining and I am loyal.

Anyhoo, so.. My duties as a "tank" are not going to be too great, and I probally will be spending most of my time on him questing alone or with a couple of others.

My questions are. Do I spec out in Prot or try a talent build like this 05/41/13 to get dps and a lil bit of prot as well? I will be doing some instances and will be switching over to full prot when we start with Kara. However I am unsure just how long that time frame shall be.
WorldofWarcraft.com -> Info -> Classes -> Warrior -> Talent Calculator

I am still new to being a warrior and understanding it completely, this guy has sat in the background while I lvled my main toon a destruction lock. So walking up and beating on something is very new to me LOL.

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Cheers

Rap

I woudn't try a halfsies spec. Go Prot or go not. You can tank without being Prot for 5 mans (wouldn't recommend heroics though, if you're new to tanking), and you can do quests while being Prot, but if you go halfsies spec you don't tank OR dps very good.

Stay dps spec while you are gathering tanking gear from quests, this should also give you a nice income of gold. Then respec when you feel you are ready to do ordinary 5 man instances and build yourself up so you are ready for Karazhan both with dps gear and tank gear.

If you do get invitet to a 5 man normal while being fury still explain that you have little tanking experience and ask the group to be patient with you - just speccing prot won't automaticly make you a good tank.

Good luck

I respeced to a full prot spec about 2 days after I hit 70, and I haven't regretted the dps loss from my prior fury build.

I have, however, learned a ton on how to tank. Reading about it, for me, was not anything like experience as a teacher. Once you feel confident in your ability to handle tanking instances as prot if your guild is not ready to progress into kara and you don't feel like getting badges by tanking respec and keep all your tanking gear and experience.

Hi, I'm in a similar situation to you. Warlock main and a (fairly) recently levelled 70 arms warrior which I'm really trying to improve. I took the plunge and re-specced to prot and haven't looked back. I was also worried about questing / grinding but it's really just as easy as you'll probably find you can solo more group quests.

Being prot 24/7 also means you get to learn your abilities better - and nothing beats experience from tanking instances which you might be more inclined to do if you're already specced for it.

Azz is my first WoW toon, found this site through the WoW forums. A ton of info here. Based on what I have read here I went DW Fury for my spec. I am in a guild with a bunch of friends from EQ, most of whom have been playing WoW since launch.

Based on what I am seeing here I should stick with the Fury spec until after I reach 70, at the same time try and get some tanking gear together? The guild wants to start doing Kara with the toons that rdy. Of course I can/t go until I hit 70 so i assume no need to mess with my spec.
