Consumables

I’ve been working hard to get my character ready to raid and am nearly there, many thanks to each of you and to Tank Spot.

My latest question is what type of consumables should I carry with me during a raid?

Personally - i always carry 3-4 Flask of fortification, 2 stacks of spicy crawdad (30 stam food), 1 stack of roasted clefthoof (20 str food), elixirs of agility and protection, gift of arthas for that "increased raid damage" that seems to not happen, about 35 ironshield pots, 2 stacks of bandages and if I can find some on the AH - 2 stacks of nightmare seeds. - if we are doing SSC i will also take a +20 fishing pole and a 100+ lure

and dont forget the most overlooked consumable - Repair gold!! (lol)

I have consumables for everything (except demonslaying for brut - we are still working on kalec however) because that is what i have to do.

consumables are a situational thing - if you are doing kara as progression then take consumables that would help you out in there so on and so forth. remember that flask of fortification + spicy crawdad is usually the easiest option!

I definitely agree with all of the above suggestions.

It helps to know the content and if you outgear it or not. I never use consumables in heroics or Kara (except Prince I'll use some stoneshield) but in ZA I'll pop most everything from the above going in.

Another thing to note - if you plan on doing bear runs in ZA - I take either relentless assault (if you are cheap like me) or Elixirs of agility! it just helps with the threat just a tiny bit but in honesty - it is worth it every time!

I'd add spciy talbuk (+hit food) to that list, its great if your hit is low in dps gear or for extra threat in tank gear.

edit: if you've got severe bag space problems (and who doesnt) I can recommend health potion injectors.

My list:
- fortification flasks
- 30 stam food
- +hit food
- stoneskin potions (lichen + motes = go to hell)
- sharpening stones/weightstones
- if we're doing Bloodboil I'll bring a few warp burgers (or bum them from a hunter)

That's about it

I also have a stack of the healthstone-wannabe's (infused crystal focus or whatever it's called...combine 10 apexis crystals with a depleted focus). They share a cooldown with healthstones, but when you're in a 10min fight it's entirely possible to go through your healthstone and still want another.

There's a macro at tankingtips.com that lets you put all your healthstones and those puppies in a single click (it will use healthstones first in order from best to worst, then start using your crystals).

The other thing I try to keep on me at all times are Scrolls of Protection V, for that extra armor boost on tougher fights.

Other than those two, I agree with the previous list (30sta food, 20sta food, +hit rating food, +str food, +agi food, ironshield pots, fort flask if I can get them, elixirs).

If you're doing sunwell, I guess the weapon coating from the daily could be beneficial for threat, although I'm pretty sure that won't stack with shammy weapon totems)

Oil does not stack with WF so I dont use it. Besides that I bring Ironshields(lots), 30 STA food, Super Healing potions and 2 stacks of flasks incase someone needs to borrow :-)
I also have Nightmare Seeds, Elixir of Major Defense x20 and Elixir of Major Agi x20 but almost never use them since flasking is alot easier and less expensive.

And I also have 5x Relentless Assault incase I am needed for DPS :-)

i think that this is a bad idea as it overwrites the hyjal exalted ring proc, the illidan shield proc AND ancestral fortitude/inspiration.

i know it overwrites the first two but i will do some testing to see if it overwrites the crit heal procs

My understanding was that the hyjal exalted / illidan shield proc overwrites the scroll, not the other way around. If I'm right, then starting off a fight with a Scroll of Protection V on is certainly better than having nothing, even if your ring/shield procs in the fight (which is pretty uncommon anyway)

If it blocks Ancestral Fortitude/Inspiration, though, that would indeed be bad if you have a healer specced into it.

yeah - my testing with a mate proves what the above poster just stated.

shaman are 100% (to my knowledge) specced into AF and i think every priest i know is also specced into inspiration. in light of this, if you have either of these classes healing you, it is definitly a good idea to lay off the scrolls of protection.

No one brings healing potions? I mean used to bring Ironshield Potions but I wasn't comfortable putting healing potions on Cooldown, shit does happen to healers after all.

40x spicy crawdad or fishermans feast.
2x flasks fortification
40x elixir of major agility
10x ironskin potion
10x flask of chromatic wonder
10x gift of arthas
10x sharpening stone
10x rune of warding
20x greater ward of shielding
40x super healing pots
10x nigthmare seed

Thats my ideal list. Usually I have a bit less of some and more of another, so the list changes in quantities.

I allways have on hand:

-If Im pairing Elixers for max effectiveness
x20 Elixir of Major Fortitude
x20 Elixir of Mastery

-If its a learning encounter meaning lots of wipes
x5 Flask of Fortification

x20 Spicy Crawdad or other +30 stam food.
x20 Nightmare Seeds *goes into a last stand macro I made.
x20 Super Healing Pots in a Injector to save space.
X20 Adamantite Weightstones
x10 Scroll of Protection V
x20 Heavy Netherweave Bandages, just incase. Concusion blow bandage FTW

And a few Haste potions and my old Kings Defender if I have to fight my Inner demon for Leo.

I used to use all the scrolls but on my realm they became crazy expensive 5+g per scroll, so I droped all but the protection, that one is probably going out the window with stuff im hearing in the above posts tho.

sorry, but how does the number of wipes effect the number of flasks you would take. Flasks persist through death.. surely its a time based thing.

Assuming you are staying until you beat it, more wipes = more time spent = possible need for an extra flask or three. Though needing 5 flasks (10 hours) is rather excessive.
