I recently bought a geared holy priest and I'm topping the healing meters! My guild mates are REALLY bothered by this (they suck as healers)
Healing in Hyjal and BT has been a great experience and will change your mind about many things, it has certainly improved my performance as main tank and raid leader |

I recently got my priest alt to 70 and am busy gearing him up for shadow. My next alt to level is a mage in her 20s. Finally for when I really just want to goof around, I have a 39 twink shadow priestess. It's fun to melt the faces of unsuspecting allies. I also have a hunter that I am working towards a 19 twink.

I run a Warlock alt (at Time or writing level 26), its just a good class to have a nice break with and solo play in the early morning. I don't even run the instances that much (mainly as no one is around) as his purpose is more 'chillout' than dealing with PUG's.

I've been playing my Warrior (former main tank pre bc and into SSC, somehow turned into a dps warrior) since near launch. I loved tanking, now I love dpsing. I played a hunter alt to 70 and love the class. Hunters are fun because they're such a great solo class. I also have an elemental shaman who's a blast to instance with. I made a Paladin with the purest intentions of healing on him...but the ret bug bit me and I like playing him casually through 5 mans and Karazhan. And yes, I have healed on him a few times lol.

I would think having a DPS-type alt would be a nice complement as a change of pace to your protection tank (plus being easy to level). I have a rogue and warlock that I use to farm stuff and serve as profession alts when I need a leg armor kit (leatherworking) or a flask or two (alchemy).
I also have a Holy Paladin because I wanted to see what playing a healer was all about (walk a mile in their shoes so as to speak). Plus the bubbling and emoting and pissing off alliance for two years of battleground frustration when Horde had no paladins.

Destro lock, Holy priest, BM hunter. I love being able to fill any spot, and the insight gained by "walking a mile in their shoes" with regards to both healing & dps makes you a so much better tank, it should be a requirement

I have a huntard. BM Spec, one button dps. And i confess whenever i play him i pull agro like you wouldnt belive >.>
That said, before my warrior i've played a Preist (Holy) and a Shaman (Resto), and its my firm belief that tanks who've played a healer at some point are superior

I have 70 warrior (main), priest, warlock, mage, and mid 60s rogue and hunter. Sometimes it's fun, but it's also a pain in the butt. Variety is nice, but it gets difficult maintaining and gearing that many toons. I admit it's been a real advantage to see encounters through the eyes of another class. When I'm tanking, I appreciate my healers more cause I know what it's like for them. I know to wait for mana. As a dps class I know to push the damage but not pull aggro. I appreciate a tank that does his job, holds aggro, and keeps the party alive.

In my guild you are not considered a real tank unless you have a mage alt.
The two MTs before me had mage alts, i have a mage alt. Both our pally tanks have mage alts.
Its fun to make things go boom all the time. Even more fun to just just sheeping and rank one FBing a warrior. Dont kill him mind you, that would be mean. Just see how long you can kite him.
