Are you refering to the blog he posted recently? If so, then it includes all the new gear on "the new island". :-)

For players starting out on badge gear, i would suggest they buy big survivability pieces first, not belts blowing all their itemisation value on threat stats.
It even shows in the neck comparison. The scryer neck is favored because of threat. If i was a new tank, i would be going for the aldor one for the dodge. Not that either of the necks are good for a defensive job, but i'd still use one over the CE rep neck if i didnt have the kara one.
IMO the articles should be renamed to: How to pick gear for a threat set.
Whenever i see people placing so much emphasis on threat based stats, i can only assume that threat generation is a big issue for them. Sure expertise is great for stopping parries, but i don't think it comes before EH and avoidance when choosing gear for the first time.

Unless you happen to have higher up 25 man gear the new badge gear has more EH and tons of avoidance because of the high defense. So there you can get a huge boost to both in addition to the great threat stats. As a tank who goes hardcore EH with a nice emphasis on aggressiveness (12/5/44 build ftw) with mostly kara/badge/ZA gear the new pieces are all great for me. I started with pants to help out with some leeway on defense. But I guess thats my 2 cents on the new stuff...unless you got some great gear its got more EH, avoidance, AND threat which really helps.

Agreed that even the badge gear which has threat stats has awesome EH and avoidance.
However, i would for instance, rank the legs and chest above the belt
Then again, it all depends on what the person is already wearing, and how much of an upgrade it will be.
I think its pointless trying to rank the badge gear in terms of which pieces are better or should be bought first in general, because it all depends on what the person of interest is already wearing. This is a case by case issue, not something that can be generalized.

@ Foolishness
I agree it is all very case by case as far as what for who, my main point was simply that the gear is loaded with lots of great stats and I personally am scrounging badges to get all of mine asap =)

Sure expertise is great for stopping parries, but i don't think it comes before EH and avoidance when choosing gear for the first time. | I think you may be missing something. The new badge gear ALL has high EH, even the 2.4 badge and the 2.3 brooch. Really, it comes down to deciding avoidance or threat, and there's really not a stage in the game as a tank where more threat is bad. Pre-kara, you can group with better geared DPS; in Kara, more threat early means it's easier for your DPS to burn through prince (many guilds just starting prince need to have their DPS go easy in P1 so they can burn in P2 without stealing aggro; more threat means they don't have to go as easy in P1). In ZA, more threat helps keep transitions on Nalorakk smooth. I'm sure others could come up with every other phase of the game (I'm not in a 25man raiding guild).
Yes, there will also be fights where you need more avoidance as well, and yes Vene ranked the BP lower because it had too much avoidance for his tastes, but for the most part, I agree with his picks (if you assume all other things are equal). Expertise, Hit and SBV are just as important as more dodge/parry/def, if not more.

T4 is all about avoidance, you can go for it if you need it. Badge loot is about threat, and some mitigation pieces, that's why they have been ranked that way.
You can also use dodge gems to convert those threat pieces in a mixed set and then, when you start gathering more avoidance oriented pieces, switch those gems with solid stars

All i'm saying is, if you are a new tank without any decent gear, you shouldn't be taking any threat gear before hardcore defensive/EH gear. because theres no point holding aggro when you are dead. I see new tanks all the time who cant beat prince because they die. And they wear threat gear. Wrong decision.
