Gear Suggestions

Just wanted to first of all say hi, and that Im glad I found this site, as it has a ton of useful information.

Here is a link to my Armory

In terms of my situation, our high mark 25 man wise is Grull, and we are mainly doing 10 man stuff atm, with Kara being a cake walk, and ZA being tough butcan down a couple bosses.

I'm here to ask a couple questions and have my gear/enchants evaluated. First of all, my tanking weapon has always been a major issue of debate as I have King's Defender and Thunderfury (both with Mongoose) and I've been on the fence of which one to use.

Another issue of mine regards trinkets and which ones I should use for an in general/more common situation. I've cut it down to 3 trinkets, Styleen's Impeding Scarab Darkmoon Card: Vengeance andGnomeregan Auto-Blocker

Too tired to really go into any major specifics atm, but I can help with any questions and constructed criticism is fine.

My Armory is updated a bit with a couple more pieces of badge gear.

I was wondering if Merciless Gladiator's Shank was worth using as a MT weapon, but wouldnt be able to get the 1850 personal rating.

Still hoping for a response on how the pre-BC gear I got compares, and any other questions are appreciated.

Don't use daggers to tank. It really gimps your devastate damage/threat.

Link to the devastate FAQ:
http://www.theoryspot.com/forums/the...html#post37287

The reason why daggers are not good for devastate is that as an instant attack it uses normalized weapon speeds. Daggers are normalized to 1.7 speed while 1H sword, mace, axe are normalized to 2.4. Excerpt from the faq explaining:

"Like many other "instant" melee attacks, Devastate calculates the damage bonus from Attack Power based on a formula that uses a "normalized" weapon speed. Blizzard implemented this is to reduce the viability gap between slow and fast weapons when used for "instant" attacks that are based on weapon damage. In other words, instant attacks using a slow weapon will still deal more damage than using a fast weapon, but the difference is not as big as it would be without the normalization. With all 1H weapons except daggers, the Attack Power component of Weapon Damage is calculated based on a speed of 2.4. With daggers the speed is 1.7."

Regarding you weapons, I'd use the one you are more confident with. I used TF over KD until I got Mallet of the Tides. I still use TF in situations where I can't Thunderclap. It wouldn't hurt to use KD though just so you can get back in the habit of Thunderclapping on trash

Regarding trinkets it depends. You can justify using a combination of those 3 depending on the situation. Styleen + Auto-Block for threat. Vengence + Styleen when threat isn't an issue. With trinkets don't be afraid to just carry around a whole bunch of them, I'll usually be carrying at least 4 if not 5 or 6 for different situations.

You just have to do the math. If you're going from sword to dagger and you're picking up 2 dps, that's one thing. If you're picking up 15 dps, that's entirely another.

When I did the math on [item]grand marshal's quickblade[/item] and [item]retainer's blade[/item] it was a very close call in terms of overall TPS. The sword was a slight advantage due to my human racial.

So I wouldn't say that wholesale, "don't use daggers". It just depends on what you are able to obtain, your race, and what build you have.
