If you don't know already, the new badge loot has had it's armor values increased. Belt is now at 993, chest is at 1765, and the pants are at 1554.

Yea its about time. I've been telling them armor is messed up on almost every piece they put out. I'll have time to update the rankings this weekend.

Hi just reading this post sensational work there.

Just went through the 15 pages to see if anyone else has tried battlemaster enchant. I have had it on one of my weapons that I use for high TPS and was doing a few runs yesterday and noticed that when it procs would heal the group for 200-300 so 1000-1500 total, but the most important part was when it proc'd I would get about 5k threat on Omen.

I know you have stated that it doesnt proc enough to be usfull but I know with devistate some fights I will have it proc more then 5 times so an extra 25k threat.

Maybe since you have started this thread blizz have changed battlemaster to proc more often.

But just FYI hope its helpful Ill try and use it more often and see if it continues to work well.

Hi Berg, i was wondering where a Thunderfury would be placed on your list of tank wepons. I thought perhaps the math might be a bit difficult to deal with due to calculating proc rates and such. I know a few of the end game tanks still use it for a threat wepon. I have been passing on the Mallet of the Tides because i'm not sure if it's actually much of an upgrade over my TF. Maybe i'm just clinging to the TF because its so damned cool looking I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the thunderfury and its viability.

Esillymidget - Would you or anyone else for that matter happen to have a list of the new armor values? I'm not doing this PTR and the items sites don't seem to be updated.

supergp17 - You can get the tankpoints mod and check for yourself vs on of the ranked blues. I try not to list too many greens/blues "of something", makes the list too big and there is usually easily available items that are superior.

Macled - I haven't looked at it since BC first came out. Since no one uses it it is possible they buffed the proc. There are mods to keep track of the rate, does someone have a more recent measure?

rumbleman - Cider himself did some experimenting with it earlier in BC and it only did ok for multi-mob battles. King's Defender outclassed it in every other way (aside from looking cool standing in Shatt), so don't pass on the next Mallet.

whoa whoa whoa, don't do anything drastic

It's STILL good in aoe tanking situations like Hyjal! You still have an excuse to put it in screenshots! It's just not good everywhere else.

Berg, great list and thanks for keeping it updated.

Seeing as you do so, the [item]Ironstriders of Urgency[/item] lists 22sta in the post but the mouseover displays it as 28sta.

Hi, this is my first post here, so hopefully it isn't too lame. This guide has been a great help to me and I thank you for posting it!

One nitpicky thing I wanted to mention is that, in the aggro weapons section, you have the [item]Cleaver of the Unforgiving[/item] as a 1.70 speed weapon.

I would also love to know how expertise racials affect an item's tank points. I was surprised that this weapon gave me more expertise as an orc than the [item]Mallet of the Tides[/item] with a nice hit rating to boot.

Thanks again.

Any reason [item]Honor's Call[/item] is not listed as an aggro weapon? Same speed as the PvP weapons but more dps.

7. [item]Bonefist Gauntlets[/item]51STA+ +1.3%hit TP:9323(8025 base)
The World of Warcraft Armory (60 badges)
* 2 gem slots

A guildmate of mine says that if you use a 5 parry / 6 stamina gem for the red socket instead of a 12 stamina one, you end up with more tankpoints than the T4 gloves.

I don't think its possible for 5parry to be almost 1000 TP better than 2 stamina, so I'm guessing there is a discrepancy between the versions of tankpoints used. He updated it from Wowace about 5 days ago.

I see you updated this thread in the last 24 hours, but when was the last time you updated your tank points mod? Sure it is not your error but am very curious why we are getting different results here...

I'm the person that joe was talking about I'll put my gear here (all numbers over an empty slot, tank points mod from wowace)

[item]Warbringer Handguards[/item] with +15 agi on them. +3008 tank points, +1572 EH

[item]Iron Gauntlets of the Maiden[/item] with +8 frost, 2 x +12 stam gems. +2682 tank points, +2044 EH

(the enchant I've got on these throws this out)

[item]Bonefist Gauntlets[/item] with + 15 agi, +12 stam gem and +5 parry + 6 stam gem ( which gets the +4 stam socket bonus). + 3280 tank points, + 2352 EH

The mod I'm using is evidently slightly differn't to Berg's ratings, I had just assumed they where the same.

This post Badge of Justice Tanking Pick Order - Warrior - TankingTips.com rates bonefist above the others, I agree.

Hope that clears things up joe.

As I've said before, all the points I list here are based off a baseline gear set made entirely of Kara and T4 level epics with suitable enchants/gems. Tankpoints have increasing returns as you stack more damage reduction, so if your own gear is significantly better, all the values will be greatly increased, but relative to each other will mostly stay the same % wise. My rankings will give a ballpark number that should be applicable to most tanks. If you have the mod yourself, go with what it tells you.

I use stam gems in all sockets because to calculate the optimal gem combo for each item would make the list unmanageable, and going all stam gems is common practice for EH gearing. Yes, a dodge/stam gem in that slot would be ideal.

Breastplate Comparison

Good Morning,
This is my first post here. I have to say, the list is terrific. I've been using it as a basic guideline to gauge what gear to use or go after.
I have a couple questions, non of which I hope sound critical. First, I have both the Jadeskull Breastplate and Breastplate of the Bold (and since I"m exalted with Aldo, have access to the vindicator Hauberk). Based on baseline stats, and such, I guess I'm a bit surprised the Jadeskull breastplate is listed so low. Compared to the other 2 listed, what would be the reason why? (i'm new to the whole tanking points thing, even though I use the mod). Our guilds progression is not up to Nightbane just yet, but we're getting there. Second, when I click on some of the links from the first page, it does not take me to that area. I'm using Firefox 3 at the office and Firefox 2 at home. It seems to happen with both.

Thanks again for an invaluable guide/list.

Zan
