Is the Chestplate of Stoicism really rated as being better than the T6 chestpiece? I heard is was only a sidegrade to the one off Zul'jin. Can anyone confirm this so Im not so confuddled?

Onslaught Chestguard > Chestplate of Stoicism
More AC
More HP
More Avoidance (Parry + Dodge)
More Blockrating
1,x% Critical Strike Rating vs 39 Blockvalue

+ Set Boni

T6 is far more better than Chestplate of Stoicism.

[item]Onslaught Chestguard[/item] versus [item]Chestplate of Stoicism[/item]

I think if you're gonna make a claim, make sure it is true.

More AC is true, no doubt, but by how much? about 150 due to agility and straight armor

1899 vs. 1765 = 134 AC difference

More HP, hands down the t6 chest wins: 115 stam with 3x15stam gems versus the stoicism which only has: 93 stam

115-93 = 22 stam difference

More Avoidance:????? Wrong
T6: you gain 1.23 dodge from agi, 1.8768 miss/dodge/parry from defense, and 1.18 from parry rating: 1.23+1.8768+1.18 = 4.2868 total avoidance

Stoicism: you gain 2.5872 miss/dodge/parry from defense alone + 1.8 dodge from rating, that gives you 2.5872+1.8 = 4.3872 total avoidance

Stoicism wins this one.

SBV versus crit? SBV scales faster than crit does for a tanking warrior so Stoicism wins in that one too.

Block rating, unless gunning for passive uncrushability is somewhat a wasted stat, but to be thorough:
t6: 3.55% block where as stoic only gives .86 block

So stoicism is a better avoidance chest technically, but not by much!

Chestplate of Stoicism

Now that the [Chestplate of Stoicism] has been nerfed to 1668 armor, I'd be curious to see where it fits in. I offer my apologies if this has been discussed already.

It wasn't nerfed, wowhead is still listing the old value from the PTR before it was fixed.

Re: Helms

What do you think of The Horseman's Helm as a Kara-level tanking piece? What it lacks in defense and block, it more than makes up in armor, stamina, strength, and gems slots.

Here are it's base stats:

1129 Armor
+40 Strength
+46 Stamina
3 Sockets
+30 Critical Strike

I have 3 +12 Stamina gems & +16 Defense / +17 Dodge enchantment on it, which brings it to:

1129 Armor
+40 Strength
+82 Stamina
+16 Defense
+17 Dodge
+30 Critical Strike

[Shattered Sun Pendant of Resolve]
Having 100Dodge for every 30-50sec for 10sec, this neck could have been under rated

And with lightning speed from mongoose stack, I gain almost 10%dodge

I too have a question regarding this necklace. The list shows for Scryer Proc (+100 Expertise Rating), but I'm Aldor which will give me +100 Dodge Rating when Proc'ed. How will this necklace rank if dodge is taken into consideration?

Berg, will there be another update for 2.4, adding the new enchants, revaluating the new meta and the necklace, and some comments on the new stuff?

If you want, I'd try to put some comments, in case you don't have the time.

Berg - Awesome work here. I've been using your list as a reference point for quite some time.

Just want to re-iterate what an earlier poster asked in regard to your view on the Guardian's Alchemist Stone. It is an expensive item to craft but seems intriguing. Where would you place it on the trinkets list?

Thx.

I know it's hard to put tank points towards expertise. But it's a stat not just for aggro/threat. It's a great stat for not getting owned too. I currently run with 38 expertise (not expertise rating). The ring from lower city is a nice expertise item. But that Heroic MgT trinket with 44 expertise rating is godly imo. I'd suggest wearing that and the 57sta chance to dodge when below 35% trinket as best choices. Raising expertise to lower a bosses chance to parry which is somewhere around 15-16% i find extrememly helpful. Before the arguments start, with 38 expertise (not expertise rating) i still get parried a ton.

Great information Berginyon!

I am new to Tankspot just found this site a few days agoa nd have been spending alot of time reading through all the articles.

One question I have for you on Chest Armor pieces:

These two items seem to me to be as good as a few of the Chest pieces you have listed.
1. Adamantite Breastplate - Crafted - Adamantite Breastplate - Items - World of Warcraft
2. Durotan's Battle Harness - Old Hillsbrad Foothills, Captain Skarloc - Durotan's Battle Harness - Items - World of Warcraft

Hope those links work

I could not find a place where I could use your formula to rate these two BPs. Could you possible rate them for me please. I am currently using the Durotan's BP (+9stam, 2- +6stam/+4Def sockets) and a friend has offered to make me the Adamantite BP but I was not sure if it was worth it.

Thanks for the help

Belkram

Hey Berg, thanks for making this list.

One question: How do you calculate these TankPoints? Would love to use the scales you use, with the Pawn addon, for ingame comparisons.

Thanks

I think the Boar's Speed enchant on boots deserves at least a honorable mention. Giving up 3 stamina for the run speed increase is one of the best trade-offs I've ever made.

I don't want to speak for him too much, but Berg's been fairly busy with real life, so I'm not sure he'll be able to give any exact estimates for when he'll have an update.

Hmm Alot of this guide to me doesnt add up, alot of tanking gear is situational, and some of the items you have "ranked" higher than others I dont understand why/how.

After reading through the guide Alot of it is correct and I like how you state T5/T6 and Entry level but some of the choices and reasons why dont add up - like advising tanks to tank with a dagger entry level, lol.

Like all gear rating systems this is not meant to be the "be all and end all" - making decision based purely on this list has never, as far as I'm aware been advised. However it is an invaluable source of comparing pieces, or what I use it for, deciding which drops are worth spending dkp on or badges. Which ones I am likely to keep for a while, for either threat or tank-sets and which might be replaced by a drop from the next boss we go for.

Plus it forces you to think outside the box, for example tanking with daggers!
