vBulletin 4.0

When available, we're going to be upgrading to the new vBulletin platform as a sitewide upgrade. Practically speaking, this means we'll go into a heavy maintenance phase and we'll be starting the entire site fresh in terms of template. The site will look clean but it won't look like it currently does and it could potentially be a long time before some features return (looking at you, shoutbox!).

There may be a few other changes that come with this upgrade, including a need for our members to update some or many of their post bookmarks.

The software is coming "soon," which means we could be looking a few weeks out or a few years out. We'll see!

I like TS the way it is now, but I'm a fan of new and different things, so lets see where this goes.

Ooooooh! Exciting vbulletin 4.0 should be interesting, I doubt I'll upgrade my site though. Lets hope that MGC release a version of their chatbox for 4.0 quickly.

Sounds good but every "patch" sounds good.

So expect lagging, buggy, fail addons not working :P [JK]

Can't wait. Personally I loved when IPB'ed updated so Vbull should be fun.

I talked to the guys who work on it, a while back (jeez...probably 6 months ago now), and they were just starting on it and said they had a LOT of work to do.

I'm dubious that if it's out any time soon that it will be in a quality state. I'd give it an iteration to see where it's going before switching over, myself...unless it's at least 3 or 4 more months.

I'd like to see that, however, (and it's been a while since I've looked into it) the main convenience of the shoutbox is that it doesn't require any workarounds for firewalls at work. 6665-6669 is typically blocked, so if there was a server/method for using IRC through port 80 (which is used for the web, and is unblocked), that would make it more enticing.

IRC was briefly (though on a.. really bastardized network) used during the Blizzcon coverage.
