Just a quick news update for those trying to log in: Source: Breaking News (Login Screen)
We are currently investigating an issue that is affecting the retrieval of character lists. We will provide an update on this by 4:30 PM PDT.

Just as a general FYI. I logged onto a fresh warrior and hit up a trainer. Thunderclap appears to have the unlimited target change applied. It was something I was worrying about, so at least we get that.

My server has never been in the list of servers that are up or offline. My server has ceased to exist.

my reg server isnt on the list.. but i tried a server that was up and it hangs at a full loading bar.
guess i just gotta wait more.

The thing that gets to me is this. After 4 years, you would think that Blizzard would finally understand that EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER wants to log in on major patch days. Shouldn't they have been prepared for this? I shudder to think about what the WotLK release is gonna be like.

There's one thing that no one can do right is that when there's this much traffic, there isn't enough bandwidth in the world to contain it. Unless you're Google =P. I'm sure they expected it, and I'm positive they stress tested it with some numbers they thought would work, but even if they did, they knew their threshold and looked at it and said, well, will it be cost efficient for us to buy X amount more servers to load Y amount of players for this one special occasion, only to have it taper down to Y/2 for 99% of the time and thus have X amount of servers sitting around doing nothing? The answer is no.

My server came up, I made it in, respecced, then discovered I couldn't zone or log out. Eventually dc'd me, now the character list doesn't come up when I try to go back. I thought that's what they had fixed?

ive always said blizzards mistake is allowing people to log in before all the servers are up. bring them up one at a time if you have to but dont let people log on them because the 100000 level 1-5 alts flooding the servers that are up kill it for the people who actually play on that server. Bring them up locked so that no one can create a new charater for the 1st few days after a patch
