Interesting vid on a journey from 0 to 1k gold by this guy. He did it with a level 5 character on a new server. Pretty cool.

He makes it look so easy! I have to say I tried out Auctioneer but couldn't get to grips with it. Watching that video makes me think that I should sit down and learn sometime.

Time spent with Auctioneer is well spent, that's for sure.
But from another perspective: Mostly, with WOLK removing the whole "chain chug your armor pots" playstyle, I find that 1-2hrs/week of doing daily quests is more than ample for making sure you have a flask and repair money for wipe-nights on 10man 3drake Sarth. :P

just to add what Ghladum is saying...Gone are respeccing charges soon aswell. That 1000G charge will pay for itself in about 5 weeks for many of us

After day 4 he stops mentioning how much actual time had passed, but this video probably occurred over 2-3 weeks. So even though this video is a great way to make money from an extremely low amount of gold, there are much better ways to spend your time. If you have a level 60+, farming for an hour a day for four-five days could net you ~1k gold in 25% of the time it would take with this method (Actual, not /played). So yeah, I would only recommend this method to people that play less than 10 minutes a day.
(And to people who are looking for an easy way to make money on new chars, LEVEL! You can make enough for skills and riding if you stop going to the AH and buying blues every time you ding)

Actually, I've been thinking about this. I'm super-intrigued. Just rolled a character to see what I can do, Auctioneer and business smarts aside. I doubt the results will be impressive but it might be fun |

I'd be interested in seeing other videos from the same site. It seems like this is just real-world economics theory applied to in-game sales and auctioneering, and I'm interested to see if the more "advanced" videos still evidence marketing strategy.

So most of us have 1k+ gold already (Or at least can do that from doing some quests). If we invested that using the same strategies he did, we could flip it for a lot more gold.

There's no reason you can't spend 10 minutes during each session playing the AH. I've done it a few times and have made some serious profit on the items I've bought/resold.

That's really an astoundingly low time investment to ultimately make 1,000 gold w/ a fresh character on a new server.

I have used Auctioneer for awhile but never payed attention to it beyond keeping track of how much things are worth. I am also thinking I should take a closer look at it...

But it looks like it could be a massive time-saving tool on my bank character if I just figure it out.

If he spends 10 minutes every "session" (which seems about right to me), those four hours is a rather long time.
He mentions that he only checks his auctions twice a week. That's 20 minutes every week. 270ish minutes spent in-game translates into 13.5 weeks, or more than four months.

Yeah I went back and realized I misread what Dygrav was saying. Honestly though, my point still stands... because if you're treating this as an auctionplaying alt, a 4 hour investment over the course of 1-4 months to
make 1K gold is really quite good.
If this is your main and how you're going to make money -- yeah not so great to have to wait this long... but if this is something you just spend 10 minutes on here or there it is a really great idea to help line your pockets.
Also, wouldn't he want to check his auctions ever 2 days since thats the maximum auction duration?

As someone who lives, breathes, and dies by Auctioneer I can say he is spot on for this video. I've unloaded hundreds of thousands of gold in items. Average turn over and profit is almost 1k/day for doing very little, maybe an hrs worth of work or so.
Overall it comes down to more than just using a few mods to make a huge amount of profit. You have to spend money to make money in this game. I'm trying the same approach on another server and realizing that I will need about 4k in startup funds to accomplish what I am doing now. I am using his approach by logging in and selling stuff here and there at the same speed, but it's slow to progress. I make enough to easily equip my characters with decent gear and to pay for all spells and respecs. Not a fortune but I do little to no work besides just playing and selling.
Knowing your market, knowing what to buy, and knowing what will/won't sell with the times and schedules of several factors all pay off. It's like learning the stock market while watching the ticker and reading the WSJ.
This is a good Overview, but dont' take it as gospel.

Just posting to second what Kabasha already posted. I'm on my bank alt for about 10 minutes per day and pull about 1k per day just buying and selling on the AH with Auctioneer. That's nothing compared to some other big names on our server.
BTW next time you are at the AH and you see a bank alt that you recognize as a big seller (of gems, inscriptions, dusts, whatever) standing next to you right click on them and "Compare Achievements" then to go Statistics and check how much gold per day they make. You'll be surprised! It's funny seeing a level 3 with 800,000g from and 5k per day avg.
The video in the OP is more about how easy it is to get started. As stated in the video, once you get 1k gold "seed money" ready there are far more profitable and efficient strategies for buying and selling than the "flipping lowbie items" shown in the video.
