What is a player to do when their own individual progression is significantly behind that of their guild?
To wit: My guild (Blackdawn, Stormscale-Horde) is in the process of working through SSC and TK. By all accounts, they're making good progress, and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that they'll be working on BT before too long.
Personally, my progression is much, much less. I have not yet attuned to Karazhan, for multiple reasons, and have decided that I'd like to start raiding. However, my attempts to begin this process have been surprisingly difficult.
As my guild has already surpassed me by several steps, there is no interest in running a lesser-geared, lesser-progressed guildie through content they put on farm status months ago. This is as it should be -- I'm not looking for a free ride to the endgame, and I want to maximize my skills as a tank the hard way: by learning first-hand how to play, rather than riding through instances on cruise control.
Efforts I've made at running PUGs have been less than fruitful; most players are interested in doing Heroics, which detracts from the already-strained pool of players interested in running instances outside their guild.
At this point, it seems like many guilds (and many players!) have progressed beyond Kara -- I asked a raiding friend of mine last night if Kara had become the new MC, and her answer was in the affirmative -- and that those of us who wish to raid will have to wait until WotLK provides us with yet another gear reset, replacing T4 gear with green quest rewards.
Is there another option that I'm not considering? Should I simply wait it out for another year or so? Any outside perspective would be greatly appreciated.
