TOGC10 HC - Tanking Adds problems

Hi guys!
Wanted to ask for some help/tips regarding OT Nerubian Burrowers in TOGC10 HC.
First - here is my Armory link: The World of Warcraft Armory

Most of our wipes there was caused by Add hitting someone in the raid and killin him. Now from the beggining of the encouter i pay close attention for those adds. But always have some problems.
While i taunt one of them and go get the other one, the first one already gets aggro from a different party member. Lots of their spawns are really annoying - one would spawn on one side of the arena the other one on the other, which makes it quite difficult to pick up. Now we are using tactic where we nuke anub to 30% before 2nd burrow, so we got quite a lot patches of ice on the ground and very often one of the adds gets caught in it and it takes ages before it will reach me as well ;/
Now i couldn't use Vigilance on our DK MT since he was struggling to keep up his threat, because of that DPS had to watch for it and that crippled raid damage (so he would burrow 2nd time, which was not acceptable in our tactic). That means my Taunt is not refreshed very often.
On top of that, few times just before we killed adds, other ones already spawned, and then it takes ages to get off the ice since it slows u down as hell.
So I'm just lookin for some tips on quickly picking up the adds and make them glue to me :/

one thing i thought was making a macro:

/target nerubian burrower
/focus

so i can see on focus frame who is burrower targeting atm, which might be helpful to intervene, or charge in to get it off person who over aggro's.
and then just pick up the other one.
3rd phase is really stressing since most of the raid needs to be kept on low health and if add hits someone its instant death especially with penetrating cold active.

I am a warrior tank and use unhittable gear, i Vig the main tank, the raid stays grouped up i charge one add, intercept the other, and i only use taunt when they are close to meele range of me or one of the healers.

Sounds like you are trying to pick the adds up too soon rather then leting them come to you.

I also use a cleave glyph and improved cleave spec. i use tab target mostly and threat the lowest mob always spamming Cleave+devastate they should die quickly if the raid aoe's them down the second they get onto the ice.

I tried ToGC 10 Anub last night for the first time, and found I had similar problems (blood dk).

No matter what I did, someone would manage to pull one of them off me (usually one of the healers) before I had them on the ice. My solution was to taunt both of them and then build up some initial aggro away from the ice / raid. This meant less dps time on them, harder to interrupt etc, and it didn't work when I had to get off the ice to get the new adds, because I just couldn't move fast enough.

Eventually we switched me and the druid tank (much to my delight) and things went a lot more smoothly, though he had some initial trouble at first. Being able to spam swipe made it easier apparently.

The whole ordeal did make me feel like a somewhat bad tank though, and left that impression with the group :/

Whilst its not really what you want a dk tanking, I felt that I should at least be able to handle the aggro part, so I'm looking for a few tips as well from people who have done this.

What I could gather from it is that we need to let the adds come closer before picking them up, and then build up a sizable amount of threat before they get to the ice (enough to keep them away from healers, and from dps as soon as theyre on the ice).

you should actually pick one up THEN taunt the other since when you taunt, you get the aggro of the person targeted, if you taunted immediately whoever it targeted first probably has zero threat, so that gives you, zero threat, and it is far easier for them to pass 30% since 1 threat is 100%. If you actually let some healer aggro go off, then taunt, then you have say, 1k aggro, and it's harder to pull off you, it should be enough time to get both adds safely.

If you have a rogue or hunter, MDs/Tricks can help too.

Cleave is also good, and I usually save heroic throw for emergencies such as that... you could probably make a fairly solid mouse over macro for heroic through too.

Going out and picking up the adds in 10 man is also very easily doable since they don't attack/hurt nearly as bad as in 25 man, so you can probably even avoid putting your back to one while you bolt after the other. Charge/intercept/intervene are very nice tools to use in addition to the afformentioned strategy.

The burrowers will one-shot anyone in the raid, regardless if they are low health or not. We usually keep a warrior or rogue on one and the OT on the other to do interrupts.

It can be rough at first picking up the adds as a warrior tank with no MDs. Right before p3 starts, make sure all of the healers are standing behind the ice patch. That will help so they don't smack a healer before it even gets to you and/or the patch. If one spawns close and one spawns further back, just pick up the close one by smacking it and taunt the far one as it comes in. if they are both close but on opposite sides, charge/smack one and immediately taunt the other one. Save your heroic throw for times when you REALLY need it, and don't rely on heroic throw alone to hold aggro off of heals in p3 You have to be pretty aggressive when picking them up sometimes depending on where they spawn. Tanking the adds on anub heroic 10man as a warrior is probably the toughest tanking job in all of toc on either 10 or 25.

I'd say it's significantly harder on H-25 if you only have 2 rogues and 1 hunter. Threat is a MUCH bigger issue, however when we added a 3rd rogue it got pretty lulzy, it was nice to sit back and just kinda do my thing rather than going "OH GOD OH GOD WHICH ONE AM I LOW ON THREAT ON, GOTTA KEEP NAILING MY COOLDOWN ROTAITON, OH GOD OH GOD"

This. I put on Righteous Fury in P3 when I'm healing, it's talented so I get 6% damage mitigation from Leeching Swarm. I'm usually sitting just behind the tank in threat.

Well, yea most people who use 1 add tank on heroic25 use several rogues and a hunter to direct all adds to the tank. In most cases, the tank doesn't even have to move really. On 10man you have to keep scanning all 4 spawn points and, depending on which 2 spots spawn an add, you might have to use a different tactic to pick them up each time.

Ya, but until Leeching swarm hits they're not gonna 1 shot healers, so you really just need to get 2 waves flawlessly in 10 man, 25 man there are a lot more waves and a ton of stuff you have to pay attention to. That and I guess I just don't consider picking up two adds that tough /shrug. Subjective opinion is subjective! =P

for the first p1-we only shoot down one frost sphere to start. We let the burrowers spawn and then get the rest down once the burrowers are on their first permafrost patch. Less time getting to you. Also, i have my group stack as close as possible behind anub's booty. Second set of adds i tank away from anub, to avoid any risks of having my frost patch get spiked early in the burrow phase. Other than that its just rinse and repeat but on the second p1 all adds are tanked next to anub because you will enter p3. Try not to get caught on the frost patches too often, pretty sure a paladin can hand of freedom you so you can be mobile incase of someone taking your aggro or something.

- Make sure you save your taunt for the second add because they will have more threat to steal and it make them easier to grab. Use a shield slam on the first as a bare minimum cause there can be quite a bit of healing aggro from the MT healer, especially in p3.

- You can set a focus on the add you want to grab second too, making grabbing and taunting even easier.

- Once you get them onto the ice, position yourself so you are off the ice, making grabbing the next set much easier if you don't get the previous set down fast enough.

As for p3 for the add tank:

- We make sure any spare ice patches are down to add extra slow for the last set of adds.

-Having anub so there's an ice patch between him and the spawn points help a massive amount in this phase, as they will take a long time to get anywhere near the raid and you can tank them for less time and have more room for error. Just don't get caught out on the patches yourself.

- Use shield block -> lavanthors talisman -> shield block to avoid taking any melee damage from the adds for the whole of p3.

- Use a frost protection pot to help with recuding PC damage, and a res flask to reduce the healing you do to the boss and further reduce the damage from PC.

- Tank the adds off the ice when p3 has started so you can get them to burrow, you should have enough DPS to kill him just as they come back up meaning you don't have to tank them for long.

As a Prot War OT I....
1. help sunder armour on boss when no add. and put yourself in a comfortable position to grab the adds when they're out. because I find out most of the time at least 1 of the 2 is blocked by boss and is very hard just to target it.
2. Throw axe to the closer one and taunt the further one as soon as theyre within range. Cleave+TC+Dev drive them up the ice right behind the boss.
3. dont forget to sunder armour on boss...

the second pair i taunt the first one and dev+tc the second...

This is pretty much the hardest tanking job in ToC. That also makes it the most fun.

I do it by walking to the closest add while targeting the farthest. I thunderclap to grab the close one, so I dont have to change targets. Then, once the farthest gets near the raid and has some healing aggro built up, I taunt it. I then target the closest add and pop it with a shield slam. As the far add gets to me, I start using cleave to hold it. Thunderclap should also be coming off cooldown. At this point, you can just spam cleave, put up a demoralizing shout, and dragthem over to an ice patch.

I mark the one I've hit with the most shield slams as the first kill target for the DPS.

This method leaves all your mobility abilities available for when things go wrong. If you miss a taunt or a thunderclap, you'll have heroic throw, charge, and intervene available to go get that add.

Also, it's best to vigilance your highest-threat healer. That's usually a holy paladin or resto shaman.

At all costs, keep the adds from getting on top of the melee DPS or the MT. It's much harder to get them back once they've been hit by consecrations, whirlwinds, heart strikes, etc, while you're standing on an ice patch.

Thanks a lot guys.
I've waited longer for picking up the adds + vigilance on healer pala/shaman
and let adds burrow on 3rd phase. Was enough to get to the Chest. Thanks!
