Need some help on hodir hard mode as mage dps

my guild is working on the hard mode but i cant seem to pump out the dps that is needed.i play mage and fire spec. i have looked around and some sites were saying arcane or ffb spec was the best.

on our first try today i saw my dps go up to 10k but that time around there was hardly ice falls and i got all the moonlights and storm clouds and at the end of the fight i was there with 7k dps.

the other tries were kinda of bad there was too many ice falls seem to be where ever i went and a 2.97 casting time for fireball isnt helpful either

wonder if any mages would help me out a bit with this? just wanna do good and not let my guild down.

i mean its just alot of keep track to make sure not to aggro i do put up my mirror image or i go invis. to reset my threat. but i do give it all i got and try to play. im not sure if the lag is hurting me during this fight.

i do live in usa and i play on a eu sever and the loading screen lags and so does the frame rate aswell you think that effects me too?

thanks!

yeah, let hunter keep the singed buff, so you will be able to ignore fires completely, STICK TO MOONLIGHT ;]

You say you're getting all the storm clouds, but it only spreads to 5 people so it's not realistic to get every one. Usually if I'm dpsing that fight on my moonkin, i'll run to a cloud if there's one near me, but if it rubs off on too many other people so I wouldn't be able to get it once I got there, then I wouldn't try to run to it at distances like that, which helps to maximize dps. Another thing that will kill the actual dps number is the fireball dot afterwards, since you're doing damage it counts down on your actual dps time even if, say you're moving towards a cloud. Just some thoughts there.

First the obvious stuff: Don't watch the boss, watch everything else. Fires come out before moonbeams so wait for the first fire to come out and move to it. Wait there for the first moonbeam, then stay in moonbeams for the remainder of the fight. Be sure Particle Effects is checked under video options and move out of falling ice, get out of then back into flash freeze drifts. Move enough to keep the stacking debuff off. Try to time your movement with the casting of Hot Streak Pyros and Living Bombs, so that you don't lose any dps time since you are moving during the global cooldown. FFB is probably best for this, followed closely by if not tied by Fireball. Do not bother with Arcane.

To top the meter: While doing all of that, your #1 priority is getting the Storm Power buff. Don't watch the boss, watch your raid members, looking for the one that starts sparking with electricity and with a skull over their head if yall use DBM. MOVE TO THAT PERSON, get directly on top of them until you gain the Storm Power buff, then get back into your moonbeam. Use any one of a number of addons to make it VERY CLEAR when you gain Storm Power, if the default UI leaves you with any doubt about it.

If you are in the middle of a Storm Power buff and Flash Freeze is coming, ignore the large protective snow drifts and just keep dpsing. When you get frozen, Iceblock and /cancelaura Iceblock to free yourself and continue dpsing (break only the shaman and mage npcs out of flash freeze, then get back on boss). You want all cooldowns to happen while you have Storm Power. Use Potion of Wild Magic and Icy Veins (if FFB) and Berserking (if Troll) while you have Storm Power, and while Bloodlust is up if you can swing it. You might not have say on when Bloodlust gets used, just hope it lines up. Bring your own +40 crit rating food instead of eating the fish feast.

That's all I can think of, it has gotten me 18.3k DPS and first place 3 out of 4 speed kills so far. When you get better at dps you will have to manage threat but that is another issue.

when i dps hodir on my mage, i dont tend to stand in the moon beas unless its near a fire, i stay near a fire at all times, stacks singed and makes me not have to move. i easily push 10k+ thru the first 50% or so of hodirs health on 10 man. less moving from the toasty fire buff helps dps and damage a ton as well as refreshing singed. if you can get into a moonbeam great it adds dps and damage, if not o well.

i easily push 10k+
Considering thats half the dps you could be doing I can see how you describe it as easy. Use the moonbeams.
